I haven't been able to visit my favorite sauna on the weekends due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but today I finally made my triumphant return and it was absolutely fantastic! They have small, medium, and large rooms available, and I opted for a small room for $28 for an hour and a half, which was well worth it considering how amazing I felt afterwards. The experience doesn't stop at the sauna though - I also enjoyed a delicious bacon and egg breakfast on the patio. Kangas serves some of the best Finnish pancakes in the city, as well as French toast, eggs benedict, and excellent omelets paired with a morning coffee. If you are new to Thunder Bay, and want to try something culturally Finnish, I recommend coming to Kangas for dinner and a sauna. The food is tasty, not fancy, but the portions are large. I had the Eggs Benedict and my husband had the Fresh Pickerel. We split an order of fried perogies and we were stuffed and had lots to take home. After a good feast you need to try a sauna! We rented a medium sauna which is a nice size for two people. It cost $40 per for 90 minutes and you can rent towels for $4.00 a towel. Bring your soaps and shampoos and come sweat it out. Bathing suits are not required if you stay in your own sauna! This is a great way to end a good meal and enjoy a Saturday night.
I know the icon restaurant for finish pancakes in Thunder Bay starts with H and ends in O. But OMG .go a few letters along the alphebet and stop at K...followed by angas for Kangas. These are hands down THE BEST .ever! I have even had them for dinner. I confess i indulge in other menu favs ..... Everything is recommended. All items are fresh with good portion sizes and home-made. So next time you think of going to the icon place....do it and then also go to the K place. Enjoy them both!
Best omelettes in the city are made at Kangas's sauna and restaurant. Well know for their excellent Finnish pancakes, the omelettes are also a winner. They are light and fluffy with a variety of fillings. Add some Murillo rye toast and a coffee and you're good for the day. All ages and all walks of life enjoy their meals here. I visited Kangas for the first time on 'Pancake Tuesday' and it definitely exceeded my expectations. The service was fast and friendly, and the food was delicious. The bacon, sausages, and pancakes were all perfect. A member of my group even said the eggs Benedict were also perfect. Our dirty dishes were promptly cleared and our server was quick to offer refills and bring us the bill. Overall, a great dining experience.
Very good service. The saunas were nice and hot we cleansed our bodies and than finished with a nice hot breakfast. My wife, daughter and I really enjoyed the hospitality and we will definitely come back when we are in town again. The owner came up and chatted us and even took the time to give us the pancake ingredients. She was great ! Thanks for the memory guys
