Will start by saying the staff were okay, friendly enough but not very helpful. Asked for a jug of water and got told they were just washing jugs. After asking a further 3 times still didn't get any water. Finally ordered food and after almost 45 mins still had no food, asked where it was and told should be 5 minutes, over 15 mins later both our starters sharing platter and breads for 3 and our mains came at the same time. We did not touch the starters as we wanted our mains to be eaten hot. I said that we would like to send the starters back and not pay as they had come with our mains an hour after ordering. After enquiring at a number of venues in York to celebrate my girlfriends 30th, we booked a private section in Kennedys. The venue is in a prime spot in town, with great atmosphere and good range of drinks. Kennedys answered any queries prior to the party through email or over the phone. The bar staff even helped us put up decorations when we got there! I was slightly concerned the cordoned off area we had would be too small, but we had around 55 guests and it was fine. Overall, I would recommend to anyone for food, drinks or a private event. They also have bands on Fridays and a DJ on Saturday, as well as one of the best open mic nights in York on a Thursday.
Me and my friend and partner went yesterday for a bite to eat. At no point were we told there was no chicken available on arrival, nobody came to the table so we went to the bar to order where we were informed that the place had no chicken of any kind.. bit poor for a Sunday. My food came, £12 for a main dish, pulled pork tacos.. I expected a main dish size, what I actually got was two tiny little albeit it filled tacos) still only 2 tiny tacos . I was unimpressed at best. The Mrs got a burger, which was lovely. But still just a tiny little brioche bun with an entire plate of leaves. Since going for lunch I left starving. Brought my parents here for the first time, i've been coming for years and thought i'd treat them to the 2-4-1 burger offer on a Wednesday. The burgers are unreal! Never been disappointed! Very dissatisfied disappointed. Food was awful, charged for food we didn’t receive a service charge added to add insult to injury. The children’s deep fried chicken was disgusting! They say to judge somewhere by the toilets, had I have gone in there first we wouldn’t have stayed for food! Say no more!
I was here to celebrate New Year’s Eve 20 years ago and again this year. Nothing much has changed. Except it is more expensive and more pretentious. York’s bars have moved on and competition is much stronger. Kennedys was the original Indy lounge bar. But feels stuck in a rut. Shame really.
Stumbled upon this place on our day trip to York. Couldn't have been happier! I had a pint (or 3) of Jubel peach lager in an ice cold stein! and had a Korean chicken flatbread, which could have been the nicest thing i've ever eaten! The staff were so friendly and the music was bang on!
