following the TripAdvisor recommendation, the Restaurant "Kleine Traube" is at rank "2" in Esslingen. I do confirm, the cooking is authentic local cooking. We did a reservation 3 hours in advance, which we do recommend during holiday peal season (July / August). A table for 2 persons during lunch time was problem at all.I have ordered the "Home made Maultaschen", which is pasta squares filled with meat and herbs. Fantastic taste and compared with other classic Maultaschen, the 'Kleine Traube' does it quite light with nice meat/herbs filling. I am not sure whether we have seen the standard quality level and I am sure they can do better than that what we received. I have to admit it was the end of a busy day and maybe one of the service didn't turn up to work. But that doesn't excuse the sirloin I had. It was almost fried - I would have complained about that - but is that what you do on the anniversary of your wedding day? I was disappointed.A no go is that when you receive your bill and you are overcharged and you name it that the waiter doesn't say sorry that was my fault.
We were lucky to get one of the small high tables for two on a busy Saturday evening - and our quite high expectations (based on the reviews) were not disappointed!Especially the Maultaschensuppe (for sure freshly prepared by themselves) and the signature dish, Schnitzele mit Salaten, were perfect. Only bacause of the herb sauce of the Geschnetzletes, which was too strong for that rather mild dish, and the not perfect potato salad, it's not a 5. Service and prices are welcoming - I would definitely go again.
We stopped in this weekend for an early dinner and wow, were we pleased. Our two main courses were the forelle and the large salad with pork medallions. I was expecting small pieces of pork but instead there were three or four very healthy portions of pork steak atop the salad. This is a wonderful little place and highly recommended.

Very popular - among locals and visitors alike - restaurant serving very good Swabian cuisine. Large portions of Maultaschen, Käsespätzle, Fleischküchle, etc, and good local beers and selection of local wines. For an authentic experience at a places that local frequent, visit this place.
It was an impromptu visit to Esslingen. Open up TripAdvisor app and this was the nearest restaurant. Food turned out exceptionally great; the pork schnitzel was heavenly.....we think it was fried in butter. We also had the beef tribe and the roast beef. Thanks for the great food!
The place is cute restaurant with nice atmosphere. I have visited the place twice and each time the food has been very good, offering typical German food for my visitors abroad. The service is very good and price reasonable for such big and delicious portions. I recommend!
Nothing pretentious, but good quality food. Served at simple tables. For locals and visitors. In short: the place to be for a good meal when visiting Esslingen.

We sat outside and had a beer on their charming patio. Beautiful location. Esslingen is such a treat!
