Visited again after a couple of years and even though I still enjoyed the overall experience, the setting and the friendly staff, I did not enjoy it as much as I had the previous time probably due to an overload of food at Christmas. The meal started with a home made aperitif - very refreshing (white wine steeped with orange and lemon slices and a little sugar over a few days). Then soup (the soup is placed in a big dish on the table) and you help yourselves (full of great tasting broth more than likely based on duck, vegetables and bits of bread). Then you have foie gras two ways - semi cuit and cooked in ashes (we walked past the fire as we walked into the restaurant) - served on toast. That was very good. The a raviolo of duck meat and foie gras - quite heavy that one (we found out that they buy in the pasta and just make up the ravioli in house). This was followed by duck breast filled with foie gras and garlic potatoes (also, they buy the ducks from Normandy and just finish fattening them at the farm before killing them). Delicious. We then had some fresh cow cheese three ways - one with garlic and herbs, one with walnut and another that I can't recall. That was ok. This was followed by boulegou which is basically like a very thick pancake with apples and this was flamed at the table. The bread on the table is made by the brother of the restaurant owner in a small bakery in the village. Amazing bread. They also do take away food that you have to order in advance. The best way to contact them is to call as they do not have a website. I have now been twice but I do not think I will go again. This type of food is very heavy (obviously) and my liver just can't take it anymore! Fun to try! And this was the 25 euro menu!

We went as a group of three couples on the recommendation of one of the couples who had eaten at this establishment previously. The welcome was warm and inviting from every member of the staff with whom we had contact. We were advised that this would be a meal to remember - and we were not disappointed. The meal started with a very nice complementary aperitif - a light white fizzy wine. A nice soup served with very tasty, crusty bread followed. Two entree courses, one of foie gras and one of ravioli stuffed with duck rillettes and served in a mushroom sauce came next. The main course, magret de canard, was cooked to perfection and served with garlic potatoes. No meal in France is complete without cheese, and so a small but tasty selection of cheese was offered, along with more of the crusty bread. The meal's finale was a delicious dessert which is probably best described as a sweet omelette, soaked in eau de vie and flambéed. Inclusive of wine, our meal cost €28 per head and was worth every cent. The ambiance in the dining room was very comfortable and clean. Our whole party would recommend this Auberge, but a word of warning - arrive hungry! Also, get good directions as it is a little off the main road and would be easy to miss....

Quality, local produce, authentic cuisine this place has it all.We made a reservation - otherwise there was no room at "the auberge". Most welcoming staff who explained that the only thing on the menu that did not come from the farm was the bread! Madame was charming and interesting; Bernard is a larger than life host. Set menu, take or leave it, provided soup, two kinds of foie gras (the one stuffed with figs was exquisite and would grace the finest Michelin rated table), ravioli stuffed with confit du canard and foie gras in a mushroom sauce dazzled, while the Magritte du canard and pommels sarladaise was a simple and delicious treat. Three kinds of cows milk creme fraiche followed - nut, garlic and pepper and we just managed to squeeze in flambeed crepes. Washed down with Foy sec.Wow!"Unreasonably" priced at €63 for the lot and certainly worth twice that. Outstanding service, food and value.

Ten of us ate together at the Ferme Auberge du Grand Coderc. It was a fun evening with a great deal of food for 25 euros each, including an aperitif but excluding wine. The farm rears ducks and the menu was built around this. It began with a large bowl of vegetable soup, then duck pate, ravioli of duck, duck confit, cheese (we think!) followed finally by a sweet omlette. There was plenty of bread and vegetables. It was good hearty fare served with no pretentions. We enjoyed the evening but concluded one trip was probably sufficient. Access is up an outside staircase which could be a problem for the less agile. (It's possible that there is an alternative way in.)
