"We ate here twice. Very reasonably priced food and you only need one course. The wine list is a bit disappointing so you may find their pichet of house wine is the best value for money."

On our return from Montpellier we decided to stop in Gignac for lunch and to try one of the restaurants in the main plaza. We knew that one or two were highly rated in TA but were not sure which one. Our choice was here with menus named after song writers Lennon (least expensive) and Hallyday (most expensive) -- so, we got the French nationalism message and proceeded to order an unnamed but modestly priced luncheon menu that was very good. The starters, we both had nut/cheese salads, and main courses (meat of the day and beignet or squid) were generous and good. The only caveat was that the squid with the garlic spread was on the bland side but it was not overly fried. Both dishes were accompanied by pomme frites and, since having these so frequently in France has elevated our standard of excellent, was the only food served that reduced my overall rating from Excellent to Very Good. The service was very good and the setting was nice. I recommend this place and we may return for a dinner some time but we've got such other good places nearer our house in Paulhan, that it's doubtful.

We arrived in Gignac after 1pm, out of summer season, on a cold windy but sunny day having visited Guilherm le Desert and not seen anywhere there we fancied eating. We hurried in here thinking we might be too late, this is rural France after all. We were warmly welcomed, a water bowl for our dog was provided before I could get my own out of my bag and before we were offered apéritifs. Dog very happy! Good choice of interesting food delightfully served in generous quantities. Folk arriving after us were cheerfully seated and served too, even those arriving nearer 2pm.

Melanie and Fabrice our hosts for the evening were great. Both lovely and were able to handle my father in law's humour! Service was fast, portions were great! And so was the food! Great way to end the trip. Thank you!
