My wife and I had a 7 pm dinner reservation mid week in the first half of July 2023. The place was a madhouse. The parking lot was full, so I parked on a side street. The noise level inside was very loud (and only slightly less on the outside terrace), and the ambience was that of a sports bar. Definitely not a place for a quiet relaxing dinner, at least not at the hour we came.The food was excellent! The charred octopus appetizer was wonderful, the arugula salad nice and fresh. La Mondina used to be my favorite local spot. Carmine would go out of his way to check on our table and make sure everything was perfect. He was always willing to make adjustments to my favorite orders to accommodate my dietary restrictions.Our reservation was at 9. Last night it took the server 35 minutes before she even took our order. At that point, we just decided to order dessert and a cocktail because it was approaching 10pm. According to the server, Randy the manager wouldn’t allow the adjustments to my order so unfortunately I wasn’t able to get what I typically enjoy there. As for the food, it was excellent. We savored the pear martinis, the special burrata with figs, the filet special, and finished off with tiramisu. It was a wonderful meal overall. We were seated at a high table in the bar area since the restaurant was fully booked on a Wednesday – a testament to their popularity! The chairs were surprisingly comfortable, and we preferred the ambiance of the front section over the back room. Each table featured a candle, adding a nice touch to the setting, and everything was spotless – not a crumb in sight. Amazing!! We have been trying to get a reservation for a while now and finally got one to try this delicious gem! They have gluten free and vegan options which was perfect for me. They had great specials and drinks as well! I got the vegan GF bolognese and it was super tasty. My fiancé got the crab pasta special, which he said was amazing. The aesthetic inside and outside were both great and a vibe. Our waitress was so nice and helpful. First of all, the service and atmosphere were awesome...top notch indeed. The food is what matters most though so on that note...the food was excellent quality. However, I didn't find it to have all that much flavor, which surprised me because it was so nice and the place was super busy. I would absolutely go back and eat again, so I'm not trying to say it wasn't good, it's just not as good as several other Italian restaurants that I've been to (meaning everywhere...it wouldn't surprise me if this was the best Italian restaurant in its specific area).
Sat on the outside patio. Service was very good. We usually take our sweet time at dinner and they were not trying to rush us out to flip the table.Food was very good, although the risotto could have gone another minute, too al dente for my preference.The gnocchi in truffle sauce was perfect.Parking: Ample size parking lot if you’re early. The later you go, the harder parking becomes and turns into street parking only
The Charred Octopus over Gigante Beans was unbelievable. The octopus was delicious and the beans were quite possibly the best beans I've ever had in my life. Outstanding!The Cavatelli with Sausage and Broccoli Rabe Pesto was also 5 Star. An appetizer of Burrata, fresh Figs, and Prosciutto was also a winner. Just a great meal all the way around. I can't wait to go back!
Our favorite restaurant! The food, service, and atmosphere are absolutely perfect! As former New Yorkers, we have high standards when it comes to dining, and we are never disappointed here. We've tried many dishes, but our top picks are the truffle gnocchi, lamb chop, and fried calamari. The cocktails are also fantastic. We're so grateful to have discovered this gem! This is one of our favorite restaurants. The food is consistently excellent, and the service is fantastic. The atmosphere is great as well. My only complaint is that the restaurant can be quite noisy, making it difficult to hear conversations in the dining area. We’ve found it more enjoyable at the high-top table by the bar.
