For food and service I would give this restaurant 5*. Our family all enjoyed their meal at the restaurant last weekend. So why 3 stars. The price of the meal advertised IS NOT what you pay. Basically they add 20% VAT to you bill. This is not illegal but underhand. Nowhere on the menu does it state that VAT is to be added. Service charge yes but not VAT. When I told my friends who dine at restaurants regularly they were amazed and agree with me that this is not an acceptable practice. To add insult the waitress forgot to charge us for 3 items but being honest I pointed out the mistake and she apologised and thanked me. We spent a day in Churchtown and decided to stop in for lunch. The lunch special was £12.50 for a Pizza Pasta dish with a drink included. My wife ordered a vegetarian pizza and I had the Carbonara, both dishes were really delicious! We also ordered 1 bottle of Pino Grigio and 1 house red wine, as well as a bucket of chunky chips for a total of £29.00. Comparing this experience to the £69 we spent at a local Wagamama restaurant yesterday, where we did have 2 desserts though, we were amazed by the difference. The food at this restaurant was mouthwateringly better. The addition of friendly staff made for the perfect dining experience. We will definitely be returning!
Visited here with friends at lunchtime and was met by a surly staff member! He took our orders and the food was really good. I paid the bill and left a decent tip but once home, after scrutinising the bill discovered that we’d been overcharged! When I rang to query it, the guy who had served us answered the phone. He asked if we were upstairs or downstairs which made me laugh as we were the only people in there! He’d added a couple of items to the bill that we definitely hadn’t had! So beware…..check your bill before you pay. We haven’t been back!
It has been about two years since our last visit, so we decided to give it another try. This time, we were impressed with the delicious garlic bread, excellent carbonara, and tasty pizza. Although the prices have gone up a bit and are now higher than other restaurants in town, the quality of the food is still great. Being able to walk to the restaurant also saves us money on a taxi fare.

We always enjoy visiting La Tabella, the food and service are excellent. I’d highly recommend their pizzas and pasta. They happily split these for you in the kitchen so there’s no messing around at the table. Never a bad experience, can’t wait to go back.

We booked on a recommendation and we're not disappointed, waiting staff were attentive and very friendly an absolute credit to the company food was well cooked and seasoned, beautifully presented. Excellent.
