"It was a Monday and many of the resturants were shut. We hadn't been to the Haute Serre before but it looked OK so we booked for people. The Chateau was very pleaseant and the tables were not to close. The food was excellent...and reasonably priced. Will add this to our list of restaurants to go to."

This has proved to be a really good addition to the local restaurant scene. The location is lovely take a walk out to the viewpoint facing the restaurant at some time during your visit. The food and ambiance are equally good. This is a...modern restaurant, in terms of its décor and its food. Whether eating inside, or out, tables are well spaced and of a reasonable size, chairs are comfortable and the shingle surface outside well enough compacted not to feel like you are sinking in. The cooking style is modern and the food is well cooked and well presented. Choice is limited, but the menus well designed to cope with most tastes. We were the senior generation of the party mentioned below, there to celebrate our grand-daughters birthday. This was our second visit, last year we had an excellent Sunday lunch here followed by a fascinating tour of the vineyard. Arriving this time in the balmy...evening the setting was stunning. A warm welcome was followed by an unforgettable meal, relaxed and with not a hint of pretentiousness. The service was attentive and friendly and the food itself was delicious. I absolutely agree with my daughter's comment that she came away without that over-bloated feeling that accompanies lesser meals where quantity appears to override quality. This was just right. On our way from Sarlat to Toulouse on a Sunday and interested in Cahors wines and good food, we found the Chateau de Haute-Serre. After several GPS dead-ends, we finally found the beautiful Chateau and restaurant on the hilltop at where the signs on...the door said it should be open and the web site still saying it was open. The dog was barking and cars were parked behind Private signs but everything was closed and no one came. Beware! The website is wrong! Call ahead or just seek a friendlier, smaller vintner down the road.
It's a bit out of the way, but well worth the effort. This is a modern, up to date and very pretty restaurant in the middle of the owner's vineyards. I highly recommend that you stop by here. We loved the food and the service...and...the wines...bvut get a designated driver, since you can't walk there!
