I was excited to have some sushi for lunch but there are limited options at that time of day, so we settled and decided to give this place a try even though many previous reviewers said the service was not so great. We arrived shortly after opening and were quickly seated at the sushi bar. The first issue we encountered was trying to pull up the menu via QR code. We both waited and waited and waited but nothing would come up. Then the server recommended using their wifi, but we got the same results. After several minutes (and no offer of a paper menu), one of our phones finally was able to access the menu. Sadly it is not designed for browsing...

I used to live in Laguna Beach 22 years ago and consider myself a sushi connoisseur. I was thrilled to see that this restaurant, which still has the same owner, J, who is also the chef, is still here. My number one tip is to sit at the sushi bar and let the chef take the lead. The fresh salmon was excellent, the scallops were off the charts, the red snapper was epic, and the live sweet shrimp with heads was a unique and delicious experience. Don't forget to turn the shrimp heads into a cocktail and suck out the flavorful insides before having them fried. I highly recommend ordering the scallops again. I went to this restaurant for a date night with my boyfriend while in Laguna and craving sushi. We were seated immediately, but the interior was dirty and there were bugs flying around. Throughout dinner, we had to constantly swat away flies and gnats, and some even ended up in my soy sauce. I am giving it two stars because the staff were friendly and the devil roll was surprisingly good (it had a great crunch and a mix of savory and sweet flavors). However, other than that, it's hard to find any positive aspects about this place. The udon was bland and artificial, and the other sushi rolls were below average. Sushi Laguna is one of my favorite sushi restaurants located in beautiful Laguna Beach. The servers and sushi chefs are all friendly and very nice; make me feel like at home, and the most of all, their food quality is an exceptional!! Their rolls are our favorite, especially Mango Salmon Roll and Fire Station Roll; perfectly created with the best ingredients, very fresh seafood, and tastefully presented creative plates. I love their art-like delicious rolls. The special miso soup is authentic and reminds me of my hometown in Japan.
This restaurant definitely deserves more customers, as it offers a diverse menu including kids meals, hot dishes, sushi rolls, and fish, along with great service. We visited on Valentine's Day and were seated right away. The food arrived quickly and both the Sidewinder Roll and Erin Roll were delicious. As an added bonus, they gave us each a complimentary orange for dessert, which was a nice touch. I highly recommend stopping by after a day at the beach for a satisfying meal.
Delicious food. I had the lamb burger and onion rings. Our table enjoyed deviled eggs and spicy cauliflower appetizers. All were tasty. We were a party of five and ate inside because the tables were for four or less outside. It was a little noisy with the television showing a sports game.
Edamame was garlic edamame. It was vile. And they were out of salmon made me feel uncomfortable eating there as if it was going to be scraps of whatever fish they had left in the back. 10/10 don 't recommend eating here.
