In mid-March the season is only just beginning, so it was perhaps no great surprise that we were the only diners on this barge restaurant, tied up on the banks of La Loire, just where the two villages of Montsoreau and Candes-St-Martin meet. It was a delightful experience, as we benefited from the undivided attention of waitress and chef. The food was excellent, and the prices modest. Two 3-course suppers with 3 cocktails and soft drinks between us came to €70, which we consider excellent value. Needless to say, you get ring-side seats to watch the wide Loire river flowing by, and the soft light of a spring evening made the view perfect. It turns out that the waitress speaks excellent English, having spent several years in the UK.
We visited as part of a group of 30 which meant the seating was very cramped. Our meal was a set menu of local fare including rillettes, mushrooms etc. which was tasty but not exciting. The wine served was Saumur rouge and very ordinary. The setting was lovely, overlooking the river, but a pity the sun did not shine. Overall it was OK but we would not rush back.
there was four of us and we all had the best time the food was great we didn't have to wait long before the meals arrived the waitress we very friendly, Night was a little windy and two other tables had the wine glasses blown over and the staff replace the drink with charge. we watched the sun go down over the river and the Chateaux
Found this restaurant on a barge while driving through Montsoreau it's well worth a visit. Bistro style dishes the local speciality fouees, but also whitebait, steak, fish salads. Very friendly helpful staff you can sit outdoors at the top of the boat. Lovely way to spend an evening at very reasonable prices.
