girona suffers from a sort of two-tier system of eateries where you have the cheap, tapas places and basic catalan fayre favored by locals and then the fancier but overpriced restaurants targeting tourists but with little inbetween, l'alqueria is our favourie place because it is neither basic nor a tourist trap (tucked down a backstreet you really have to know it is here). the clientele tends to be food lovers from out of town (incl lots of the notoriously picky french) and it is a great place to savor the superiority of valencian cuisine including, of course, excellent paella and other rice dishes. food aside the service here is impeccable and really differentiates from the mostly disappointing customer experiences to be suffered elsewhere in town.

Extremely unfriendly and racist. We were the only Asians there but there were other tourists there. Waiter ignored us for awhile until we asked to order. He forgot our water. Also, he gave all the other tables free bread with their paella and free chocolate at the end but did not give us either of them. He also gave all the other tables spoons to eat their paella but didn’t give it to us. The paella was also undercooked the rice specifically. FYI, the price is per person. We got the shellfish paella which was 17 euros. They charged us 17 euros per person.

Girona, just a 45 minute train ride north of Barcelona is one of the most historic and culturally rich places in all of Spain. It provides historic touchpoints from Moorish, European and Jewish perspectives that engage your mind. But, L'Alqueria will capture all of your senses in a meal that promises to be memorable.

Delicious rices and paella’s. We were running away from touristic traps and found this restaurant on the guide. We were nicely surprised! So many rices and paella’s option that the only struggle is to choose. Better to reserve a table!
