We've eaten here in the evening before and it's very good indeed. But this review is about lunch on market day, when we ate here without booking. We experienced all the artistry, craft and creativity of an evening meal but at a knockdown price. "Knockdown" is €28 for the formule, three courses, wine not included. It may be twice the price of an alternative, traditional local lunch but it's astonishing value given the quality.Flavours are exquisite, produce is local and every dish is art. This is easily one of the best lunches we've had in le Gers. Clientele seemed to be well-to-do locals. The very busy server is attentive although not effusive. The room is cosy with no view. The atmosphere is serious foodie rather than lively. You should visit.
I have eaten at this restaurant many times over the years and it is surprising how often it changes hands. The good news is that the standard usually goes up with each change and the latest is no exception.First impressions count and the building is very attractive, both outside and in. It is a pity that the first impression on looking at the menu was disappointment. However, the food was excellent as was the service. I really hope that the establishment remains under the same ownership and keeps the same chef as the level of cooking is high.
We thoroughly enjoyed this gastronomic experience. We elected for the 32€ menu. The entree of poached egg, mushrooms sauce and crouton was lovely. I then enjoyed a piece of lamb that had been very slowly roasted in a wood fired oven. Followed by an amazing armagnac, prune and, ice cream and meringue creation that was, as promised, both warm and cold. There is a very close attention given to the quality of the food and its presentation. The service was friendly and good.
Having read and heard good reports we went for lunch. The welcome and service was as icy and surly as the minus 2 c outside. The menu de jour at 22 euros for three courses was well presented and much enjoyed. Lovely cauliflower soup, followed by rabbit, and a very tasty apple desert. What a pity the ambience did not live up to the food.
