Being a Monday September Evening in France, we were lucky to find a Restaurant, close to where we were staying! L 'Auberge des Pelles, was the only game in town , but surpassed our expectations, by a wide margin. The Formula Set Dinner Menus looked to be really good value, but we decided to opt for A la Carte, as these prices, also, were very reasonable. After a glass of Kir, each, we enjoyed Salads followed by the Charal Steaks, which were perfectly cooked and accompanied by Dauphinois Potatoes and Grilled Tomatoes mouth wateringly delicious! All washed down with a piche of local Red Wine. As we were the only Diners, we got the chance to have a friendly conversation with the delightful lady...
This restaurant is a hidden gem and serves fantastic and regional food. As it is situated in the region known from the goat cheese (crottin de chavignol), we chose to have some dishes which featured this nice cheese and have it accompanied by a nice white Sauvignon Blanc. We had an amazing lunch. The restaurant itself breaths the region and the way it is decorated, you can see that this restaurant is there for a long time already. A very friendly host served us and the time in between the dishes was very right. Please note that you can pay cash (or French cheques) only, no credit cards or bank cards accepted! A must go if you are in the region!
pleasant discovery because we do not arrive at the pellet inn by chance, the site being away from the departmental road. nice setting, rustic decor with very beautiful old peasant tools. authentic welcome. many choices of dishes that rotate mostly around the goat's crottin. It's good, it's local food. little wines, locals, and the one we enjoyed was very good. reasonable prices.
A solid meal here, not gourmet but good. We both went for the set menu at €17 and €19 respectively. The children had a set, but average child's menu. We both enjoyed our food that was rustic home cooking. Make sure you leave time for the experience. We would return if passing.
