We just arrived in France, having flown into CDG and driven down to the beautiful Loire region. A long, exhausting day so all we wanted was a simple meal and a chance to deal with jet lag. We drove into Chateaudun and found a lovely little square with Le Bistro perched on one corner. On a Tuesday evening, it had a nice crowd of folks, most of them just drinking and chatting. Feeling bold, we opted to ask for menus. At first glance, I thought we had made a big mistake. All in French (and, indeed, why shouldn’t it be? , it seemed a bit more involved than we wanted. But, we hung in there. My wife ordered mussels and a green salad while I went with a steak and fries. Both, happily, were delicious. The steak was accompanied by a creamy sauce that really worked. Washed down with wine, blanc et rouge, they made for a satisfying dinner. Why stop there? Bring on the profiteroles for dessert! And, oh my, they were truly grand. The ice cream was custard-rich and the chocolate sauce was heavenly. Combined with a pleasant atmosphere, the cuisine helped get our French junket off to a great start. We recommend Le Bistro wholeheartedly.
