Le Couvent des Cordeliers

Would highly recommend Le Couvent des Cordeliers based upon our only visit (so far!). Went with French friends and they too found it perfect.Service friendly, efficient and helpful but not intrusive. Simple, in terms of choices, but very imaginative and well conceived dishes expertly assembled with fresh ingredients. Something for everyone, including vegetarians. Wine list is also very simple based upon one well selected house red, white and a rosé in carafe. We paid a very reasonable 36€ per head (I'm not clear why another reviewer found it 'over-priced', especially given the setting and the charmingly restored buildings and delightful garden).They also seem to do English Teas from the mid-...

Received a warm welcome from mine host. Sat outside on a quiet Sunday in down town Verteuil, somewhere in the Charentes region. We sat outside and chatted with the owner who was very urbane. My mate and I had the spicy pumpkin soup with Ceps on toast, very yummy, lots of flavour. Our chauffeur had the rump of lamb, which looked very tasty. Sitting by the river was just magical, and the owner then showed us the very old crypt which will be used for the new years eve celebrations. Just wish I lived closer!

Food excellent in the evening, expensive but you pay for the surroundings, great for a special occasion.We also visited for afternoon tea which was lovely. My only negative comment is that, as it's a high class establishment, they should give a choice of loose tea, maybe Assam.

Stumbled across this lovely hotel & restaurant this summer. Such a fantastic fairytale place! And the food was just brilliant. So good to find good quality vegetarian choices especially in France. Well done. We'll be back!

We enjoyed a wonderful breakfast on the terrace then took a walk to the river, pithy it was too cold to take a dip in the pool, maybe next time.
