"Le Vineum is a restaurant and wine bar in Tain l’Hermitage. It is owned by one of the largest wineries in the area – Paul Jaboulet. We had a nice lunch here. The menu is limited, but the food was tasty and they had a wide selection of wine by the glass. I had a delicious lamb stew – very much a classic in this area."

Unless you've read about this place, you'll enter into a place that looks like a wine shop that sells very good wines, but if you look closely behind the counter where the registers are, you'll notice tables and a tasting bar. We entered early with the intent of tasting wines so we made our way onto the bar stools for a wine tasting. It was still before the lunch hour and we were the only customers. We tasted and bought a couple of bottle and left. We returned shortly before noon, looking for a place for lunch. We were in for a great surprise. Given the time of year, the chef was taking advantage of the asparagus that was available and his talent shown through. The asparagus based soup was followed up with another plate with fresh asparagus and a fish (which was incredibly prepared) that were beyond what one can expect from a vegetable that I am not usually fond of, but these preparations were in the hands of a master. For the main dish, my wife and I had the "filet" of pork . . . wow! The flavor of the pork cooked to just barely beyond medium rare was fantastic. I deferred on the wine pairings because of our earlier tastings, but my wife indulged and the wine pairings were great. In fact, they offered to change the one wine because she had tasted it during our visit earlier in the morning. The pairings are done with thought and awareness of your dining choices. The overall atmosphere and environment are great, sitting below the rustic beams in a small dining room that looked to be at capacity with 20 diners. You should probably have a reservation to ensure a table for lunch. This was a pleasurable surprise!

Traveling through the Rhone wine region we stopped in Tain l'Hermitage to taste some wines. Although we had a wine tasting at Paul Jaboulet aine earlier, we didn't realize that they also served lunch. As a result, we were delighted to learn that they do lunch in their restaurant, Le Vineum. What a lunch. The welcome you with a small glass a wine. The amuse that followed - a cold asparagus soup - was delightfully fresh. We both opted for the asparagus salad as the starter. I came with perfectly cooked asparagus with an incredible citrus vinaigrette and was topped with a filet of perfectly cooked fish with a saffron butter. For mains, we both opted for the pork served with spring vegetables. What we received was magnificent- perfectly cooked pork that was flavorful and moist. It was served with spring peas, carrots, and asparagus and accompanied by a pea purée. My husband had a fruit eclair while I opted for the cheese to finish - they did not disappoint - full of flavor and fresh. The set menu can come with 1 glass of wine (for 32 euros) or 2 glasses (for 35 euros). Given that we were there for the wine as well as the food, 2 glasses were a must - and they were paired to the meal. I note that they did not try and serve their young wines with the meal. For example, with my pork, I was served a well rounded 2007 domaine Saint Pierre corneas that was first rate. The service was perfect and the surroundings were cozy and warm. A perfect lunch with great wines.

Lunch only , there is no dinner. They have a set prix fix menu but there are other choices. I came for the set lunch and was not disappointed. The chicken was one of the best I have encountered. They also have very good appetizers served throughout the day lead by their substantial and tasty charcouterie plate. Great wines as this is also a high volume wine shop. Service is a little spotty but was very enjoyable experience. Reasonably priced..

This is a nice place with a mix of tasting room and restaurant. I only went to the tasting as the restaurant was closed. The tasting was not extensive by any means. If you wanted to taste the top flight wines it was going to cost you a fair amount. Being in the trade, they wouldn't even offer a tasting for me. The wines that I tasted were very good and I would recommend them to you.
