Perfect location beneath the splendid Chateau within a delightful medieval (?) square this tastefully finished restaurant with interesting decor and artwork for sale provided a splendid lunch that was served by an utterly hard working, pleasant maitre d'. Starter of fish tartare was served with a simple salad and the dressing was stunning. (Local walnut oil perhaps?). We both enjoyed the pavé of veal served with a delicious sage sauce and potato rosti that was delicious despite appearing over cooked. Both courses went very well with the Bergerac rosé. Walnut cake dessert and exquisite coffee finished it off well. Too good to miss, service, ambience and food of the highest standards.

After visiting the Hautefort Chateau we found this wonderful family run restaurant for dejeuner. Ordered then found they have a complimentary soup starter....absolutely delicious. Shared a cerviche tuna with the best avocado and sun dried tomato warm accompaniments. We then savoured the duck shepherds pie and roast pork. Just the best flavours. Treat yourself to the mollaneaux chocolate cake with creme anglaise custard for dessert...even if you have to share ! Really memorable meal.

What a pleasant surprise. Hautefort is such a beautiful village with its amazing chateau, and to find a lunch spot, open on a sunday, with such a great ambiance, roaring wood burner and tasty food, the icing on the cake. It was full and we had booked in advance, so don't risk turning up without a reservation. Excellent food, lovely atmosphere, beautiful village. Plus check out the interesting antique shop. Lots of gorgeous nic nacs.

Don't usually do big lunches but this was huge, very tasty too. Five courses, starting with a very yummy garlic and onion soup, then a scallop & avocado mille feuille, then sturgeon fillet with rice & veg, then cheese board, then rumbaba! Stuffed now.
