Called in whilst cycling and couldn’t have been more pleasantly surprised. Very nice setting in central square, service friendly. We both had a salad and frites pretty standard fare for France these days but what was not standard was the food! The salad was not just plentiful but instead of the normal limp bit of lettuce with a bit of dressing(standard in France these days), this salad was imaginative and very tasty grapes, pomegranate seeds, few fried slices of cold courgettes, melon, tomatoes, cucumber, etc. etc. delicious! and that’s not to mention the frites which were best I’ve ever had in France, all washed down with a glass of local gascon wine, and 26 Euros for the two of us!
We visited today, chose menu de jour.First course of tartare poissons and tomates bio was ok but tomatoes were overripe.Main course we chose PINTADE.The main course took a long long time to come and was TOTALLY different to other Pintades that we had seen delivered to table around us.Our pintade was a breast that looked like chicken,tasted like chicken and smelt like chicken and was a different colour to the pintade served to nearby tables.We have eaten Guinea fowl many times but never had any like this before.Very disappointed and will not eat there again.
After a morning at the market we wanted to sit down, have a drink and take a bite for lunch.Our daughter needed to go to the toilet so left her chair unoccupied.At first the waiteess just took her chair, without bothering to ask if it was occupied, and used it for someone else. After a while we were asked if we wanted drinks or a meal. Since we first wanted a drink, we said we wanted to order a drink first. Not possible was the unfriendly reply and the waiteess walked away. We did too, to the nearby Cafe the France. They had no problem serving us.
This plac serves good local food, without trying to be fancy (this is a good thing for such an eatery). The owner was working along with his staff on the terrace and kept a close eye on what was happening. There is no wine list. Simply go inside, pick your bottle and the matching glasses will be brought to your table and that’s it. The owner even takes time to help you selecting your bottle. Great stuff....! Loved this place with menus on chauk boards, fantastic service and excellent food. Our friends were locals and highly recommended. Found out why. Very busy as family dinner being held but our service was great. Ambiance on square lovely. 3 story building and history says that during WW2, German troops used bottom floor, Gestapo used second and not known to them, the Resistance was on the top.Recommend.
We were staying nearby so had a few drinks in the sun on the square then came back for dinner. Well situated, lively and busy. We had the 28 Euro menu of jambon, duck or lamb and melange of sweets. All good except the chips were soggy. Nice wines too - a red and white by the glass. We also got a complimentary plate of duck terrine on toast. Pretty good , really.
