I'd been enjoying my meals from Maki Yaki since I started ordering from them a couple of months ago (the food is good), but I learned a tough lesson with my last take out order earlier this week: check your order before leaving. Even if the bag is knotted.I ordered two plates and a Philly Roll. The bag I received was tied up firmly, but, based on weight, it felt like everything I ordered was in there, so I went home.However, when I cut the knot off the bag, much to my disappointment, the item I was most looking forward to (the Philly Roll) was nowhere to be found.Considering how frequently I eat away from home, it's a small miracle that this hasn't happened to me before. Lesson learned.
We made a big order for a dinner event and Maki Yaki did a great job getting everything together. The quality and portion of the special A was impressive. There was a lot of chicken teriyaki made from thigh that was juicy and had good char. The salad greens were fresh and came with a nice dressing. Even the rice and gyoza were spot on. I can't think of a better $6.95 meal around, especially given Pasadena prices. Check it out for an affordable and solid meal.
Today was the second time going in a very long time and I totally forgot why... the lady that's there is rude a hell. Oh yeah and if you like ginger make sure you ask for more that one tiny little pack with two drinks of ginger. Also the sushi roll that I got did not taste fresh. Never going back again!

Great food! I got a bento to go and the chicken teriyaki was very good. And a pretty big portion too! A good take away meal near where I work. I'll probably get food here again. I didn't want to eat in the actual restaurant because the atmosphere was not very inviting.
