Sadly, after meeting such a friendly host at the front door, this restaurant just did not produce. The fried calamari was abysmal. It was grossly overcooked and overbreaded. The breading was rock hard and the calamari inside was the consistency of shoelaces. Refer to my photo for the giant clump of overcooked over breaded calamari. I ordered the margarita pizza. It was a wet mess. The crust, and I use that word very liberally, was soaked through. At least the center 1/3 of the pizza was the consistency of chicken tortilla soup. I am giving 4.5 stars. I have been here at least a few times and always enjoy the food. The staff are all friendly and create a positive, family like atmosphere.Mama D's is a very popular restaurant and always has people waiting, which is a good sign.While we were waiting for our table, the staff offered fresh, warm, seasonsed bread and we were able to order drinks. Great experience. Chris was our waiter and he was absolutely fantastic very knowledgeable and passionate about the dishes. There were so many good options to choose from. We were able to customize so many of the options to try as much as possible. The bread was to die for especially with the garlic and olive oil. I couldn't stop filling up on the bread. Then the pasta dishes came and they were also great. The meatballs are made in house and delicious. I would go again to try some of their other dishes. We went on Friday evening and were able to get seated at this location. I haven't been to the original one but apparently it's the same staff across both locations so I'm not too worried about...
Good food (at least the chicken and sausage pasta with pink sauce was good....that's what all 4 of us ordered). Great service. We were the only ones outside and they willingly fired up 2 space heaters for us. Prices were a little pricey (but ok for Newport prices) but splitting plates was no problem. We'll be back to try something else.

Excellent food and outstanding service! We all enjoyed a wide variety of dishes. I had the eggplant Parmesan, and it was fantastic—I'd even say it's the best I've ever tasted, and I've tried many. Everyone in our party of seven left completely satisfied.
We’ve been to both other locations in Manhattan Beach Newport Beach, and this location did not disappoint. The service was great and the food was delicious as we expected. The sausage and chicken capri with fettuccine pink sauce is my favorite dish.
A quaint and cozy spot offering exceptional Italian cuisine. It's unfortunate that they are only open for three hours each day. Despite the constant busyness, the service is outstanding, and the food is delicious. You won't be disappointed!
