A little bit of a place was written on Gastro Guide as intensively and comprehensively as about Mandy's Railway Diner. I'm surprised I haven't written a post yet. In the last century we were introduced by Heidelberg friends into this slanted cult position and are here again with almost every visit to Heidelberg. Have heard about Mandy's for awhile but never got a chance to stop due to the long lines outside. I thought that the long lines would indicate that the food was good and many people were waiting to try it. No it just means that...the service is horrible. They walk past you for about mins before then even try to take your name for a waiting list. There were probably empty tables but people waiting outside. We had a big group of people with us, the waitress didn’t want to take our order. Had to make us write down our order. After which, they wanted us to change our orders to a similar order so as to make things easier for...themselves. Reluctantly we changed our orders to just the plain cheeseburgers. During payment, there was a change due, however the waitress assumed that I was tipping her, without me even saying a word. the service in mandys is the worst. That's not American. the American is gone to make a customer happy. I'm every weekend there and I'm using to order a big down under plus barbie pale milkshake. I always have to remember the waitress that the milk shakes come on top with a cherry. also that should not be necessary because it is as I notice, for a long time the huge is not really what it must be. (dopple ananas/ more meat) so yesterday I asked instead of speck my two portions of ananas and they ask me to pay for it extra. the lattime was I decided to order the normal hamburger and they loaded the big one. the location is super, the webwagon is designed with lots of love to detail. in every corner there is something to see. eating is delicious, with the last cut still missing here. but the portions are large, the shook tasty and tasty and the staff is beautiful, therefore also the full 5 stars. the railway diner is worth a visit.
We ordered Breakfast of boiled egg (note just one) with beans, toast and tea, and fried eggs with toast and coffee plus Noice for Euro’s. Boiled egg was hard with no centre and toast only toasted on one slice. Nice ambience...shame about the quality...of the food, not really up to American standards as they proclaim.
at mandy’s railway diner you cannot preorder. one comes to a waiting list, sits before the waggon on chairs or a bank and is called. that's okay - it didn't last long. from the drink card I missed the popular johannisbeer juice.And even if it is stylish. the food remains fast food.
the restaurant is in a rebuilt wagon and simply cozy! incredibly many details without that it works together. we felt very comfortable. the selection at the breakfast is huge. for every taste something is there and everything we have tried was very delicious!
