Every time my wife and I stroll through Highwood, we always pass by Maria's Cafe. Recently, we decided to finally give it a try for lunch. We ordered their gnocchi special, and it was outstanding! It literally melts in your mouth and is paired with a delightful red sauce. They also have a huge selection of pastries that look absolutely tempting. We sampled their cannolis and were thrilled with how delicious the pistachio and chocolate varieties were. The staff was very friendly and welcoming, adding to the overall enjoyable experience. Keep in mind that seating is limited, so if you plan to dine in, it’s best to go at a time when it’s less busy.
My visit to Maria’s Cafe was so enjoyable that I can’t wait to return. This restaurant offers a cozy atmosphere and an impressive menu. My friends and I ordered paninis, and I can honestly say they were some of the best I’ve ever had. I chose the chicken and pesto panini, which was delicious and perfectly portioned. The cookie display is also worth checking out, as the variety of cookies is both beautiful and tempting. To top it all off, the service was outstanding. Every staff member we interacted with was friendly and attentive. I highly recommend Maria’s!
I ordered the fried calamari and it took a long time to arrive. When I finally received my order, it was cold and tough to chew. I couldn't eat it at all. It was very expensive for an appetizer that was inedible. I wouldn't return to this restaurant.
This place is a true gem treasure. It's like going to your Italian Grandmother's home with all the delicious authentic home-cooked Italian food and amazing Italian cookies and desserts. A perfect place for having a treat with family or friends.

It was the ideal spot for a birthday celebration! We were seated right away, our orders were taken promptly, and the service was exceptional. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area!
The gnocchi ricotta is excellent! The pistachios cookies are wonderful! An authentic Italian restaurant and a bakery with a great atmosphere. Bravo continua così Gino Pollari!
Gino really knows what he's doing! From the appetizers to the desserts and the lunch and dinner menus, everything is outstanding!
