We used a wowcher deal for our anniversary. The room was immaculate (though in all honesty, I've stayed in Premier Inns with nicer rooms and the hotel itself was very clean. We had a little issue with our room key (not scanning and had to go back to the desk 3 times to get it sorted. Since we had just arrived, with our luggage, it might have been nice for the person on reception to actually come and sort the problem (it's not a short walk to the rooms . The spa facilities were lovely and we managed to access everything. We had a voucher for food but opted to eat out elsewhere due to comments in other reviews. Good hotel to use as a base for exploring both Shrewsbury and surrounding areas. Hotel has a mixture of old and new features which adds to the character of this building.. Our room was a privilege one with lovely view over both lawn and pond. It was comfortable and practical . We had dinner on first night which was both tasty and well presented though some people may struggle with the choices if having dinner on more nights. This was seen by the number having bars meals in evening. Breakfast was excellent with a good choice on self service. There was a fly problem in our room killed at least 6 lots of things needed fixing some were but others the maintenance man said he would be back the next day to fix but never turned up, a lot of the staff had only started the day we turned up and didn't have a clue what to do on the first night the bar was mayhem. On the next night our group had our own bar but didn't have a card machine to pay for your order and they couldn't be bothered to get one and the young girl with the massive false eyelashes was moody unhelpful and rude maybe should try a different occupation. I was attending a conference. Lunch was not good and had to be sent back. Sausage casserole and lentil casserole. Inedible so we asked for sandwiches to be made up for our delegates. The sandwiches arrived quickly and were very nice. The following day lunch was back to being a very nice chilli and rice with salad. Don't know what happened with the sausage and lentil casserole as we have held numerous conferences in the hotel and food has always been lovely. I recently had a fantastic stay at Mercure Albrighton Shrewsbury. The staff were extremely helpful, and dining at the Oak Room was a delight; the steak was cooked to perfection and the triple cooked chips were among the best I will ever have. That will be a food highlight forever, I think. The comfortable bed and spacious room ensured a relaxing stay. The stunning grounds, accompanied by the sight and sound of birds in the evening, added to the serene ambiance. An unforgettable experience that I would highly recommend!
I like this place, great location and the spa is wonderful. Let down by two issues... 1. The inclusive evening menu is limited, which is fine provided it changes daily. It doesn't. The wines are excellent though. 2. Why do we have to suffer intrusive popular music in the restaurant and corridors? Look at the age of your clientele. If you are playing music, avoid vocals, try to stick to neutral genres like jazz and classical and keep the volume right down. Both these issues may prevent me booking again.
From the friendly reception staff to the restaurant staff including the bar staff and even housekeeping every bit of our stay was made special. Heated pool and leisure facilities were all fabulous meals were amazing from both the bar and the restaurant afternoon tea was great, good choice of sandwiches and cakes and large pot of tea. Privilege room was brilliant with fantastic views this was our second stay and third has already been booked.
Stayed 3 nights. All staff were friendly and helpful. Room and bed were very comfortable and quiet. Gym and pool were great, we used both. The only meal we had was breakfast on our last day. The food was good but the atmosphere was too bustly, with guests and staff having to constantly walk up and down the centre of the room for drinks etc. It was not relaxed at all. Lovely grounds, large comfortable room, great breakfast. Restaurant was disappointing , evening meal menu was limited and you only got 6 chips..service was slow. We preferred the bar food larger portions better choice but we waited up to an hour for the food to arrive. We enjoyed our stay.
