This place was busy!! I assumed I would be waiting a long time. I was seated straight away, placed my order straight away and in 5 min had the food! The waitress was very knowledgeable and courteous. I ordered the PEI mussels in the sun dried tomato cream sauce! Superb. Mussels weren't rubbery (melted in your mouth) and the sauce was light and delicious. I also ordered the local wine - Gamay Noir. Very light and smooth. My friend ordered the Sandbanks Baco Noir. I found it sour, but my friend loved it. My husband and I stopped for a light lunch at 11:00 a.m. (the Cafe's opening time for lunch). We sat on the patio and ordered a "local charcuterie" plate (to share) and tea. The charcuterie plate was excellent (in hindsight, we should have ordered two)! There are umbrellas to shield from the sun and a small inside area with some baked goods (croissants, etc.). If you arrive when they open, you may have a chance to get one of the three tables that are directly at the front of the ravine, with a superlative view across the lake/channel. Note: their business hours are not posted on website; we happened to arrive at 11:00 a.m. as they were opening; they may or may not be open for dinner.
We initially were to invade the place across the street with young children but this one had a more interesting menu so we decided to stop here. Good idea! The view is spectacular, overlooking the water, especially on the terrace. They have an assortment of charcuterie platters, open faced toasts and the like. All were very good....not cheap but the quality was definitely there.They have some nice local beers and the food was very good. Service was efficient and our waitress literally saved the day by locating a 3 year olds favorite sunglasses she dropped. Kudos.
Special birthday dinner. We had reservations on Sat. night, but may not have needed them. Had local cider and beer - both very good.Shared a bowl of mussels in sauce with tarragon - quite good. My guest had orrechiette with beef, and ate every bite. I had lamb curry that melted in my mouth; not too spicy. Service was awesome. Dessert was a moist, 2-layer cake - very fresh and flavourful!! This is a perfect spot to have a glass of wine or a locally brewed beer, a tasty lunch and enjoy the spectacular view. The food is well prepared and changes frequently to reflect seasonal fresh foods. This is a favorite spot to bring friends who are visiting The County.
