First and foremost, the chicken was delicious, crispy, hot and tasty. The sides were wonderful and not an afterthought in the least. My one point was on a Saturday at 4:00 pm, I wasn't aware that the staff takes a mid afternoon break. Luckily we went to the nearby bar but we were starving--having missed lunch. The hand-written sign wasn't clear when the break was over, it had been re-written and reused so many times. We waited 45 minutes to order. When we ordered, they were out of candied yams and only had a small portion of candied yams. We ordered the 8-piece combo, without the yams we defaulted on the greens and the Mac-and-cheese. There is certainly a following since people in the know wa...

Minnie Bell's was the best soul food we tried while in the Bay Area. The location was perfect given it was only a few minutes from Berkeley located inside the Public Market Eatery. Black-owned and woman-owned this restaurant is worth the line! We dined at Minnie's twice and it was so good each time. We ordered the 4 piece fried chicken with Mac n cheese and candied yams! We also ordered the spiked sweet tea. The food is perfect southern comfort food. The chicken is pretty well seasoned and they even give you some crystals hot sauce (rare in the Bay Area)! The mac n cheese is beyond creamy! Absolutely cheesy goodness! Then the candied yams were cooked well too! Our favorite thing was the brow...

I visited this restaurant on a Sunday around noon and ordered a Chicken Sandwich, a small side of Mac n cheese, and some cornbread. The service was slow, as my order took around 20 minutes to arrive. Surprisingly, my friends who ordered a big 8 piece chicken meal after me received their food in just 10 minutes. The fried chicken sandwich was okay - the piece of chicken was large but lacked flavor and seasoning, making it a bit dry. Adding coleslaw to the sandwich may help improve it. The mac and cheese was decent, and the highlight of the meal was definitely the cornbread, which was the best I've ever had. I would return just for the cornbread. Overall, I plan to come back to try the normal...

Located inside Public Marketplace. Free parking for 2 hours in the parking lot across the street. Lots of food options here, a pretty cool place with foosball and air hockey tables. $35+tax for 8 pieces that comes with 2 large sides and 4 pieces of cornbread. By large, they do mean it is LARGE. Fried chicken skin is crispy and tasty, well seasoned. Meat could be more tender. You can choose what you want for the pieces so we asked for all thighs. Cornbread a big fan of this! Crunchy top and tastes like brown sugar. Mac n Cheese smoky and very cheesy. A bit heavy for my tastes but I can see how some may love it. Pickled Veggies wish there were more cucumbers in the mix. In a food court full of competition, Minnie Bell's holds its own, serving delicious, piping hot soul food. Got the dark meat combo with mac cheese and added a side of greens. The chicken was juicy, flavorful and crispy, made even better with the addition of hot sauce. The mac cheese had an extra cheesy crust providing a contrasting bite to the soft pasta, and the greens were extraordinary with plenty of pot liquor. Even as a member of team savory cornbread, I found the sweet (honeyed? cornbread delectable. No doubt I spent the day's calories and then some, but it was worth it.

The fried chicken at this restaurant is amazing. You can taste the hot sauce and rosemary marinade in every delicious and juicy bite. The white meat is juicy and the skin is crispier than Popeye’s. It’s like a combination of Popeyes and homemade soul food. The cornbread has a nice sweet flavor and is moist and crumbly. The drinks are also strong. Overall, it’s a great restaurant and it’s even better that it’s black owned. Hopefully, the owner can expand their empire to the Fillmore someday.

As a traveler in town for work, my first dining experience in Oakland was at this restaurant and it exceeded my expectations. The chicken was absolutely amazing - so flavorful that I didn't even need hot sauce, which is a must for me when eating chicken. I will definitely be returning to this restaurant regularly during my time here.
