With the pandemic we have been away from Cartagena for several years. Many things seem to have changed, with several restaurants now gone, the situation, at least in the old town from where to eat. There are of course the fancy menu tasting... places that try to clog each other about the number of dishes they use (and your cell phone camera). Then at the other end there is the other end of small pizza and Italian restaurants, just on food as well as make them, but immediately forget. It's the bit in the middle, that's the problem. Good, well cooked and interesting food. Something that is different from your nightly farewell, but also not an up-market credit card to finance the festival. Where, as in the past, Montmatre comes in. Good traditional French cuisine, a far enough menu to the most (including veg options) and a remarkably cheap wine list. Some shooters might suggest the portions might be bigger, but they would be the missing point that a good dinner should have three courses and still you will be able to go. The prices are also low, I have discussed whether there are everywhere where you can get such French food at these prices. The increasingly weak Colombian peso naturally helps, but a decent chateaubriand, with fries, or dauphinois costs you all $10 about a quarter of the price of the same in the nearby hotel I stayed. The staff and the owner are helpful and pleasant. I'm one of them that Kovid could provoke more than one cold, so I have to watch. She made sure we were nicely away from others in the evening so we could eat without worry. Are there any problems? Well, some of the spirits were not available, but then again the procurement of European products in Colombia is not always easy and unlikely to improve with the weak peso. For Diners about Colombia you will probably not see how difficult it is to collect the menu items offered. Seafood is quite simple, but a regular supply of duck cover? Anyway, come here and see the miracle unfolded. You can have a pizza or a pasta at home. But a good chicken purse?
