We are foodies and this place did not disappoint. We originally had dinner table reservations but for later than we actually needed (didn't know that when we booked a quick call got us moved up earlier but from a table to the bar...and that turned out to be a great thing! The menu is the same but we got to enjoy the conversation and direct recommendations of our bartender/server she was awesome! The menu is always changing but the choices are wonderful. The drinks were so tasty and the food was exceptional. We chose 5 courses of sharable plates plus dessert...and that was just right for the 2 of us. I've eaten here twice, and both times a reservation was fairly important to getting seating. The menu is a double sided hand out, a few carefully selected items in appetizer, small plate and entree styles. Full bar with expresso and coffee items. Generally this is a 100-120 dollar evening for two people. The service is on the ball: My water never sat empty more than a few minutes, our options were cogently explained and affably offered, and we were queried on dietary restrictions at the outset. I visited Moon and Turtle during my one day trip from Oahu to Hilo. The menu is mostly seafood, ahi (tuna), which is great since that's a local fish, so it is fresh. A lot of the ingredients used in the food are local as well. We ordered a few small bites and one entree to share. The mushroom risotto was the best thing! The smoked fished and the pipkaula mac salad were also good. The prices ranged from $10 $30. We had a reservation for the first dinner seating, 5:30pm and we were done by 7:20pm. Glad we were able to get a table here on Wednesday night read so much about this place, been wanting to try it for a while. We were a party of five and decided to try everything on the menu. Some dishes were fabulous, 4+ stars: smoked sashimi, ahi belly, sizzling poke, pasta with sausage. All desserts were yummy cheesecake, ice cream, sorbet, pot de creme with blueberry compote. A few things just missed the mark for us for example, the risotto was a bit overcooked; market fish would have been even better without the breading. Service was kind and attentive. We had a very enjoyable experience at Moon and Turtle! We made reservations for a Saturday on a Tuesday earlier that week and the only available table for 2 was the bar at 5:30pm. Turns out it was the best seat in the house. The bartender, who was also one of the owners, was very sweet and attentive. The food was amazing. We ordered the smokey sashimi, mushroom risotto, and the cheesecake. All were excellent. I also had the lychee press cocktail that I recommend. We would visit Hilo again just to eat at this restaurant!

We ordered 2 appetizers and one main and the food was all very good. The ingredients were so fresh and the fish was cooked to perfection! The atmosphere was cozy and service was fast and the servers friendly. The food came out a little fast for our liking. The cocktails were delicious (leeche lady) and wine was cold. We would recommending giving it a try.

We dined here for dinner, and let me tell you, the appetizers were so good. The mushroom risotto was so on point. The fish of the day was absolutely delicious! We finished off with the Basque cheesecake, and oh my goodness, it was baked to perfection. That caramel? It took the dessert from zero to hero!

Food was absolutely delicious- I could eat the Kiawe smoked sashimi every day- SO good! High quality, fresh, and reasonably priced. Highly recommend and can't wait to go back.
