Went for a work dinner - regret it and won't be going back. Mains took over a 1.5 hours to arrive on a quiet midweek early evening after substandard starters. Each main was cold, dry, lacking in flavour and generosity and completely lacking in care. Service was brash and unfriendly, with dishes (when they eventually arrived) thrown down on the table in front of us aggressively. I contacted the restaurant before leaving this review and was promised a voucher as an apology. This never arrived after almost two months of waiting. No responses to emails since. Dishonesty probably, or fake care for customers at best. Plenty of better local options.
Having come to live in Aus with my Aussie better half after from the UK, I have to admit I miss the UK and especially the British pubs. This place was recommended and as it's a stones through from where we live we popped over on Friday for a bit of dinner and a few drinks. LOVE the pub and LOVE the atmosphere with a range of beers and wines. The food, if I am honest, was just ok but the service from Tigan was fantastic, she was warm, friendly and funny. Very attentive but not intrusive and had a laugh with us. Will definitely be back, it's not Edinburgh but it's a little bit of it and helps.
Walked into a space buzzing with positive energy & attentive staff. Not a surprise that you'd need to reserve a table at this popular venue. I had a delicious, perfectly cooked porterhouse. My partner had the Guinness Pie. We shared a side of cauliflower and an overly tart mixed leaf salad with anchovy sauce. Aside from the lettuce which was virtually inedible, we were drooling throughout the meal. Lunch at O'Connell's is an uplifting place to go if you appreciate quality food/presentation & good vibrational energy.
I have been a customer of O'Connell's for many years and no doubt I will continue to keep going back for old time's sake. I went there for lunch this week and the waiting staff were as good as always and the venue revived old memories. The problem came with the food I'm afraid. The Guinness Pie was a mere shadow of it's old self and the Wiener Schnitzels were very very ordinary. Perhaps it was just a bad day - I hope so.

Went here for dinner and thoroughly enjoyed the night. The menu has changed, the starters have been removed and is only entree now. I liked the starters, they were always tasty. I went with just a main, had the veal schnitzel with fresh coleslaw and chips. Large portion size and the meal was delicious. We did feel a little rushed after being there a while, the service otherwise was good. Recommended.
We vwere looking forward to this venue very much given its reputation as a great gastro pub.Parking was surpisingly easy with plenty of 2 hour parking right outside.The ambience is great and the restaurant was full. But disappointingly the service was slow(not enough staff??) and the food OK but not brilliant.Conversation was easy.Maybe just a bit of an off day and will happily go back again.
The worst pub meal I have ever had. After waiting for 1/2 hour for our meal I was presented with a rubbery piece of veal schnitzel, a tasteless coleslaw and the worst chips ever!! I will never go back. Even my drink lacked enough bitters!!
Grand Final night. Very busy but great atmosphere. Had sausage and mash washed down with "Save Our Souls" Yarra Valley Sangiovese! Great food, great spot: recommend.

Was fortunate to find this little boutique Pub in the suburbs, amazing set up fantastic food along with a wide drink selection the perfect local or get away ????
Dinner with family, our main meals were small so make sure you order an entree or a side. Nice place to visit.
