Olive's at Newstead Hotel

My husband and i, along with a large group of friends ventured to Olive's at the Newstead Hotel on the 25th of March, we had heard people say they had a new chefs and the meals had improved immensely than what they used to be. My husband and i both had the scotch fillet, one with chips and salad, the other with vegetables and chips (which we then had to have the chips separate as a side) both cooked rare with the creamy peppercorn  sauce.  Well, where to begin, both steaks came out, the vegtables we burnt on the outside, and i had to wait for my chips, but that wasnt the only ussue we had. Well where to start.I will start from the start.Walked in and went to counter to inform staff that we had turned up for our booking. In the restaurant area there was only 3 tables occupied. The staff member with the name Liz (short dark hair) was folding knives and forks up in serviettes, and waffling away to a chap making pizzas. After saying excuse me 3 times, I got my phone and whilst standing there listening to her waffle and ignoring customers, I rang the hotel to inform them that we had turned up was in the restaurant area but was leaving due to the fact if a staff member can be so rude the food would be atrocious.They apologiesd and all we got is hope we see you again.No you will not...

Have dined at Olive's a few times and some meals have been better than others but you can't expect a perfect meal each visit. They offer a free function room which is beautifully set out and plenty of room for guests and decorations, the staff worked extremely well to make sure we were all comfortable and even had the fire going upon arrival, which we all thought was a great little extra. The meal I had was a parmigiana and it was just that little bit overcooked on the outside but the chicken itself on the inside was still juicy so I can't complain. Will continue to dine here and hire out the room for future functions/parties.

Everything was overpriced. My wife and I went there for tea and I ordered catch of the day with "Veggies" which cost $28. Meal was terrible I was keen on the veggies but turns out the "veggies" were a couple potatoes, carrot and beetroot. My wife ordered the breast chicken with veggies, she got the same veggies (the potatoes and the rest of them). Chicken was dry. She asked for some sauce and was told she told to pay $2.50 for a gravy. Reserva una mesa ahora

Garlic bread was amazing but came at the same time as some main meals. I got a creamy peppercorn sauce wasn't creamy at all but also had capsicum in it. My family member got fish of the day was under cooked sent back and got a refund the girls was good about it. We have been here a few times for meals it's always been so good but today wasn't very pleasing.. We will be back again hopefully on a better day tho!

We hired the free function room and were pleased by the staff who were helpful with setting up and even lit the fire before we arrived. Food was reasonably priced and meals were a large portion. Chicken parmigiana was slightly over cooked on outside but delicious on inside and garlic bread entree with dip was divine. Definitely be back for another event

Have visited this Restaurant a number of times over the last two months. Meals are great, fresh Chicken (not processed), staff are friendly and helpful. Best to book a table as this Restaurant is very popular. There are special menus on different nights and some come with a Large Beer or Softdrink.. looking forward to my next visit.

We had a large family gathering for dinner and Mother's 70th Birthday celebrations. The food was very good value for money, on a cold night (outside) it was nice and warm inside... meal quality was excellent, with ample servings. Visited here as a large birthday group, prompt service, large range of meals and pizzas, basically a pub that has added a restaurant to its opions. Well worth a visit, certainly not fancy but would definitely go back for a casual pub meal that has taken the next step up

There was a large group of us, meals at the end of our table weren't great, I have the chicken Kiev it was 20 dollars and was very small reminded me of the frozen ones in the packet you get at the supermarket.... I don't think I would go back
