My family recently moved from Austin, Texas to San Mateo and decided to try dim sum for the first time. We had heard fantastic things about Palette in San Francisco and wanted to see if it lived up to the expectations. We went on a weekday, and although the restaurant was quite busy, the atmosphere was delightful. We ordered a variety of dim sum dishes, including Peking duck and Wagyu chow fun. In A Nutshell: -If you decide to come have a meal at Palette Tea Garden, your palette will thank you every time you take a bite! -Seriously, if you are looking for authentic Chinese food, this is a great place to satisfy that hunger. -The service istop-notch 5 stars they even have a robot helping out. -The surf clams were delicious, make sure you order that. Overall, ifyou live in San Mateo you already have a ton of great restaurants, Palette Tea Garden is another great option especially if youare in the mood for authentic Chinese food.
Despite arriving 25 minutes late for my reservation, I was fortunate enough to secure a seat at this bustling restaurant. The food was exceptionally fresh and served steaming hot. The meat in the dishes was perfectly cooked, tender and easy to eat. Their dumplings are undoubtedly the best in the Bay Area, featuring the ideal amount of filling and a robust skin that holds together well when picked up. The only drawback for me was the automatic 18% gratuity, particularly since it was just a party of two, including myself.
It seems that the chefs at this restaurant might not be following the recipes closely. During my recent visit, the Black Truffle Crispy Duck Fried Rice was overpowered by herbs, which obscured its classic flavors. The mapo Crispy Impossible Mapo Tofu was overly spicy, detracting from its usually delightful taste. On a positive note, the Pork Soup Dumplings (xlb) were outstanding.

I always look forward to dining at this restaurant because the food is consistently excellent and delicious! The seafood noodles are particularly tasty. While I wasn't a fan of the crispy noodles on their own, I discovered that pairing them with rice creates a fantastic combination. The custard dumplings are an indulgent and decadent dessert that I highly recommend.

1) Black Truffle Crispy Duck Fried Rice: 0 stars. It had a chemical flavor and was really unpleasant.
2) Wagyu Beef Chow Fun: The beef amount was very small, but the taste was acceptable.
3) Seared Black Pepper Wagyu Bao (3 pieces): This was good and the only reason I didn't rate the restaurant with one star.
This elegant dim sum restaurant elevates the dining experience. Although it's on the more expensive side, it is definitely worth a visit. While there are only a few vegetarian options available, the green dishes stand out for their exceptional flavor. Don't miss the vegan specialty, the Crispy Vegetable Rice Crepe—it’s a must-try!
The place is so pretty! The food is delicious and the employees are so friendly! Everything came out fast. We ordered a lot of food but it was all worth city to try and take home. Next time we come we will not come and order 17 dishes for 2 people but oureyes are bigger than our stomachs. We will definitely come back here.
