I drove 25 min just to get there. The egg rolls tasted like mushy seafood. The honey chicken had rock hard dry overcooked chicken and soggy fried coating, fried shrimp dry and overcooked, Kung pao had gristle pieces and no good chunks of chicken, the wonton soup all the wonton were shredded up and the pork had chunks of the veins and gristle. A great place to get Chinese food in North County. The cuisine hits a good medium between westernized and authentic Chinese food without being too exciting or too expensive. The wait staff is incredibly friendly, and my wife and I love to chat with them when we go eat there. The ambiance is very cozy, with nice lighting and a mix of Chinese instrumental music, and covers of western songs on piano or guzheng. The egg drop soup and the imperial soup are both delicious 4 stars for the food because while it is absolutely delicious, I do wish more of the dishes included meat and veggies together, instead of one or the other. I've been a loyal customer since 1994, but my recent experience on Sunday, August 6, was disappointing. My wife and I arrived at 8:35 PM, just before the 9:30 closing time. As soon as we sat down, the waitress hurried us, stating they were cleaning and that we needed to expedite our order. My wife requested two hot teas and asked for a moment to decide. We placed our order quickly, but we noticed that two couples who came in after us were given much more attentive and friendly service while we were largely overlooked. We usually tip generously, but this kind of treatment is unacceptable. We will be searching for a different Chinese restaurant from now on.
This is our favorite Chinese restaurant in the North County area. The ambiance is very nice and the portion sizes are generous. The staff is very attentive as well. I love the Orange Peel Chicken.
