Most nights have live music starting at pm. That's when any hope of conversation at the table ends or becomes unpleasant because the music is too loud. I'm a big concert goer and can rage with the best of them, but dinner is more of a chance to catch up with your friends and share conversation over a good meal on the ocean. The live music is almost always brilliant but always way too loud for a restaurant setting. If they were on a stage with an audience there for dancing, it'd be fine, but not for dinner music. So, Papa Kona needs to decide what the musicians are there for. Background dinner music or rocking out dancing or listening from the table. It can't be both. I prefer the idea of bac...
Sorry to say that our recent visit/dinner at Papa Kona was disappointing. âOnlyâ fresh catch was Marlin, which we donât really consider a fresh offering for most entrees⦠grilled, fish chips or tacos. Most all other restaurants in Kona have Mai-Mai,Ono or ahi. the âHappy Hourâ was limited to only a few drinks as was on only appetizers. Their competitors in area offer off most drinks and all appetizers. Dinner entrees were acceptable but not at level to recommend or return very soon.
I hate to write this review because this was my favorite place in kona. I hope that was just one visit we had the fish of the day, marlin. it was tasteless. they were made of certain articles for their special drinks. for the prices that this restaurant commands, I was extremely disappointed and so my guests were. the lookout is but spectacular and the service was good.
We brought two little tired boys here for dinner tonight. We had the loveliest time! Had reservations and we watched the sunset. Delicious food and great staff. We are so glad we went. We will go back definitely!

Excellent service and great food. Our party of was accommodated very well. Amazing ocean views; we whales breaching in the distance.
Took guests to celebrate. As always, food was delicious and service was right on. Music was a little loud for conversation.

the pork and the French toast were excellent, eating came out very quickly!
