If you really enjoy smoked Southern BBQ, this family owned restaurant is an excellent choice to enjoy Southern BBQ. You are greeted as soon as you walk into the place! Very friendly people work here, and all the food and side dishes are homemade. Love the music, it contributes to the atmosphere along with outdoor seating. The pulled-Pork sandwich is an excellent choice. The hot chicken sandwich is excellent also. I ordered a full rack of ribs! Wow, was that choice a hungry man's choice, excellent ribs. But the serving size was super large, and I took half of the ribs with me. Highly recommend this place over looking the lake for a great dining experience!
We were in Tennessee on a short vacation. We chose Papa Turney's as it was on our way back to Indiana! First time for Tennessee BBQ! It was outstanding! We got the Family Pack which consisted of a full slab of ribs, pulled pork,2 large sides and 3 slices of pie! The ribs were fall off the bone and melt in your mouth! The pulled pork was smokey deliciousness! We chose Mac n cheese and Turnip greens! Hands down the best I have had from any BBQ place! And the Chess pie was delicious as well! Will definitely stop here again when in Tennessee!!!
I had the most delicious tasting Turnip Greens in my life! They were better than my own Mothers Turnip Greens! My husband even had an unexpected visit from the owner who looked great at his age! I will say that they didn’t have their chess pie which saddened me. The atmosphere and the employees sweet and helpful attitude made up for not having any chess pie. I will definitely be going back!! We had a wonderful time!
The ribs were tender but cooked without sauce. The brisket was not very tender and was crumbled on top of a hamburger bun, making it soggy. I did not enjoy it prepared that way. The mac n cheese was bland and dry. The pack of hamburger buns included with the meal was not worth it. However, the food had good flavor overall.

The meat was incredibly tender, but could use more seasoning. The Mac n cheese had the perfect cheesy consistency but was lacking in flavor. The turnip greens and cole slaw were perfect. The chicken wings were so tender that the meat easily came off the bone. Overall, we enjoyed our meal despite the lack of seasoning.
I’ve been coming here for years every Wednesday and Saturday for the best BBQ and Live Blues! Mr Mike (Papa Turney) and Ms Zeke have become family. They get so excited to see new faces! If you’re lucky enough to score a piece of strawberry cake, get 2! Trust me!
Omg! Delicious BBQ!! Great atmosphere, and they greet you at the door. We tried the brisket and the ribs with coleslaw, potato salad and Mac n cheese. The meat portions were generous and the sides tasted fresh and homemade. Were definitely going back!
Wish there was a 10 stars option instead of 5. Ribs, brisket and baked beans are wonderful.

Food was bland and soggy. Catfish was the only thing decent. Not very good.
The food was delicious, I would highly recommend it.
