Short, compact lunch criticism. The morning I had spent on an empty sour gas training at EMPG Großenkneten, then still buzzing encounters with bureaucracy of an oil company that is afraid that his arsons already sue him again....and I got more and more hunger because my breakfast was over at 6:00 in the morning! On the way back from Oldenburger to Münsterland I thought where I could get a decent lunch off Burger and Dönerromantik. I didn't feel like fast food. But finding a inn or restaurant with a lunch table on a Monday on the way from Großenkneten to Bad Bentheim is a very heavy to impossible task. The Pier 99, restaurant and bar of the Riverside Hotel on Lake Vechtesee in Nordhorn, was just outside Nordhorn. I hope that at least there would be a lunch, so short-seated in Nordhorn bent off the B213 and took the way to the parking lot of the Riverside Hotel. The complex is part of a Nordhorn hotel dynasty with several houses now and the Riverside impresses with its location on the shores of Lake Vechte in Nordhorn. Through the hotel lobby you enter a very large guest room, the Pier 99. And it was open and the kitchen offered a lunch. Fine! The guest room is divided into two parts, inside a very loungic area, open fireplace in the middle, long bar, a few dining tables, some low seating and high tables. All kept in darker wood tones. I took place in the conservatory. A window front opens in this liqueur to the lake that interior is beach barstyle. Largely decorated tables, chairs and benches on a floor. More rustic decoration, cutlery in large glass with paper salviettes. Okay, I didn't expect a big service, but I reduced expectations a little more. The map (see on the HP) presents a Mediterranean international beach bar kitchen, with pizza, pasta, a few Mediterranean appetizers, soups, salads and a few meat and fish dishes. Everything was clearly aimed not to get too much work done on creative dishes, and there were no culinary surprises. My attention, however, attracted the very well-thought-out small but very tidy selection of open wines and bottles, there you could be happy. But since I was there by car, just a soft drink for me. I decided for the Insalata Neptun and was curious about things. The salad is called as a mixed leaf salad with cucumbers, tomatoes, olives, onions, mushrooms, mozzarella, pecorino, paprika, various fried fish fillets and a small shrimp not much later I was served a plate with the salad. The visual impression was good, the salad itself presented itself freshly in all its components, tasty made with a coarse-grained mustard dressed that was neatly tasted with vinegar. Unfortunately, the fish served were not presented. Easy to identify the shrimp, the shrimps were very short grilled, almost raw, but tasty. A small piece of Zanderfilet I was able to identify without any doubt and be as tasty. It became harder with the other two pieces, I suspect a grilled piece of swordfish as well as a fried piece, from which I think it was mackerel. For the price of 12,90 EUR, this was a proper court. I was happy. The service did the tasks without any problems, but it wasn't much going on and he could act relaxed. With an espresso I closed the food and paid an invoice of EUR 18.20. As a conclusion I can hold, no creative cuisine, but neat Mediterranean standard kitchen. Clear recommendation for an uncomplicated lunch. In the evening it would not be my choice, but in the summer I imagine an evening in the offered ambience at the lake very nice, especially in the wines offered. I'm sure you don't mind who goes.
