I was in town for work and Rodney Scott's was just a short walk from the hotel. I ate there for lunch one day and dinner the next. For lunch, I had the turkey sandwich and it was smokey, moist and delicious. It could use some acid in the form of eitherpickles and/or onion, but it just comes plain with white sauce. For dinner, I ordered the catfish with hush puppies, mac cheese and greens. Yes, yes and yes! My order had two very large fillets that were crispy and tender, but a tad bit underseasoned. Wow! I had heard that Rodney Scott knew his way around BBQ, but tasting is believing! The 14-year old even said, "These are the BEST ribs I 've ever Eaten!, and growing up in Birmingham, he 's had quite a few ribs! The ribs were flavorful, caramelized on theoutside, yet SUPER tender on the inside. The pork (plate) was covered in spices, visually, but, just the right amount of YUM!!!I tried all of the sauces, they are a perfect compliment, but, the meat is so good, it doesn 't even NEED it. Hands down, theBEST collards I 've ever had. Not too vinegary, with a little hint of spice. Mac cheese was very tasty, too! We WILL be back tohave more, very soon!
Wow! I had heard that Rodney Scott is a master of BBQ, but tasting it truly confirms that! Even my 14-year-old remarked, "These are the BEST ribs I've ever eaten!" And considering he grew up in Birmingham, he’s had his fair share of ribs! The ribs were full of flavor, beautifully caramelized on the outside, and incredibly tender on the inside. The pork plate was generously seasoned with spices, adding just the right touch of deliciousness! I sampled all the sauces, which complemented the meat perfectly, but honestly, the meat is so exceptional that it doesn’t even need them.
I've only tried the ribs at this restaurant, and they were fantastic. My previous favorite ribs were from Dreamland, but I believe the seasoning at Rodney Scott’s is even better. The ribs here are slightly more tender than at Dreamland, yet they’re not overcooked. I really enjoy the sweet and spicy sauce they offer. I keep telling myself I should try their pulled pork, as that's their specialty, but I can't resist the ribs. So far, I've only had takeout, so I can't comment on the service beyond my experience at the counter.

Went to Trussville location right after 430, ordered two rib plates and one turkey plate. The rib plates were HORRIBLE! Looked and tasted like it was microwaved from the day before. We always went to the Avondale store but it’s closed now…really hate that, probably Won’t have Rodney Scott again?…Really disappointed after going to Avondale just about every wknd with never having Any problems.
Everything was quite amazing pricey but to be expected and the portions were very generous. Definitely can taste the care and consideration in the food. Also, most places that have good BBQ have pitiful sides, the sides here are on par with the food and they were excellent. Catfish filets are very delicious as well.Kid-friendliness: Easy going place for kids.
I had an incredible brisket sandwich for lunch today. This was my first visit to this restaurant, and it certainly won't be my last. If you're in the Homewood area, you definitely need to check it out!
This was some of the absolute BEST Food I’ve had in a long time!! I don’t have a complaint but I feel staff should come to your table at least to ask is the food ok or if someone needed to go boxes.

This is the best barbecue in the city! The atmosphere is open and spotless. The staff is friendly and very welcoming. And, of course, the food is outstanding!
We've tried the whole plate , but should have bought only the ribs. Local beer was very fresh and tasty.
