Although the original Route 66 actually runs through our hometown in Central IL and we know that it never ran anywhere near Bar Harbor, ME- we loved their take on a bar/restaurant designed around the iconic and historical American route. The entrance is somehow hidden behind the street, but you can hardly miss it as it is designed. Inside you will find Route 66 theme decorations galore, and they even have small radios playing classic hits at any table that you have the volume on which was quite unique. What the actual food and service goes-we felt that there is room for improvement. Our waiter was friendly, but we got the feeling that they wanted them to be elsewhere than waiting our table. It didn't feel personal, just felt like they might not have the best day (it was also close to the end of the day). Regarding our food: it didn't taste bad in any way - but we don't feel that it was something to write home for the price we paid. We had the lobster dip as an appetizer, and then we both tried to try a philly steak sand with fries, as this is one of our favorite things on our journeys. Again it was decent, but it wasn't the best we had for the price we paid (only shy of $100 for our food and drinks). All in all, the atmosphere is a 10/10 and the food and service was acceptable. I recommend you try it for the experience and make your own opinion. We have eaten many places in our travels, so of course our opinions about certain dishes can be simply picky to others. We ourselves would eat there again to give him a second chance, although there is not our favorite during our trip to Bar Harbor this first time around.
