Let me tell you, being from South Fla and The Bahamas, it's mighty difficult finding delicious Caribbean restaurants. This spot is definitely better than other Jamaican restaurants I've tried, especially better than Golden Krust. Lol. To be honest, I was standing in line and folks in front of me were ONLY ordering beef patties and coco bread. After I ordered and stood to the side to wait for my food, I continued hearing folks ONLY ordering the beef patties and coco bread. Now I really started to worry because I thought that meant their curry, brown stew, oxtails, etc, were not good. Lol. Thankfully, I gave Royal a shot, and I was not disappointed. I ordered their curry chicken lunch special...
This restaurant serves some fantastic patties, but unfortunately, their oxtail, curry goat, brown stew chicken, and everything else I sampled left much to be desired. It was the worst Jamaican food I have ever experienced. I never thought I would come across a Jamaican meal that I would consider throwing away or wouldn’t even want to share with my neighbor's bothersome dog, but this place surprised me. I suggest checking out other places, like Kingston or Fireside. I spent $130, and the oxtails tasted like burnt rubber, while the gravy had a disagreeable taste reminiscent of overused, burnt oil. Overall, it was a very disappointing experience.
While the patties are fantastic, I strongly advise against spending your money on their cooked dishes. I contacted the restaurant and spoke with the owner, expressing that I could only eat one oxtail because the food was incredibly disappointing. The only resolution he proposed was to exchange my white rice for rice and peas. Please, do not waste your money on their cooked meals! I’ve never tasted Jamaican food this unsatisfactory before. All I wanted was a refund for the food I couldn't eat, and it’s really frustrating to throw away three plates' worth after spending so much. It genuinely ruined my day.
Great place with great food! No question!!! but to the timeliness of getting orders and payment is entirely way to slow, there's a short woman who wears a hat she looks like she's sick and stares off talks slow, moves slow, and another woman who bags orders and shows the plates. Why have two registers if you're going to block one and not use it. I know these are young girls however this is a busy store. Patience was not an issue it was more so principal. Move with purpose . I was recommended this place by a Caribbean friend. The patties there are slamming!! I mean the best beef patties hands down i have ever had. Stopped by here a few days ago and picked up a few curry chicken patties. These are the best we've ever had in the metro area, and we keep coming back every now and then when we have a taste for some. We want to try the j chicken patties and the veggie patties, but we always have a taste for the curry! Always perfectly flaky, but not too much, and the filling is never dry or lacking flavor. You won't be disappointed!
This place is a must-visit! It's the only spot I know that serves freshly made patties. The friendly staff greet you as you walk in, instantly giving off that warm island vibe. Now, about the patties—you can't go wrong with any choice. My favorite is the meatloaf patty paired with coco bread. Just a heads up, they sell out quickly, so get there early! Enjoy!
Oh my goodness! I've lived here for 20 years and just discovered this place. The beef patties and coco bread are the best I've ever had in Atlanta. This is definitely my new favorite spot. Food: 5/5
