The system Safeway uses for locked-up items is inefficient and frustrating. When I asked the staff member to unlock a product, they seemed completely unenthusiastic and barely responded, even after I reminded them twice at checkout that I needed the item they had unlocked just minutes before. You’re not allowed to handle these items until after payment, and you have to specifically ask for them. It made me feel like a thief just trying to buy groceries. Additionally, there were no shopping carts available, and when I inquired, the staff simply said the carts were outside. Overall, this experience made navigating Safeway’s menu of products unnecessarily difficult.
