Today, my hubby and I decided to give this diner an attempt, I am a Philly Cheese Steak Afficianado and I was not disappointed. Our super waitress was great to get this fabulous sandwich and pommes so I could eat it for breakfast while my Nabeby had its short stack of pancakes so high and delicious excellent spicy sausage and one side of eggs. He jumped over the sausage and we learned that it came from a farm in Mississippi where it is made for them from farm to table!! What a great taste! But I was in ecstasy with my sandwich. Honestly, this place has some really good Southern style seafood. I split the plate and it was the perfect amount of food for two. They were able to choose the components of the plate, so after a lot of debate we with the crab spiced in butter, Hush puppies, fried puppies, fried prawns, two crabs cakes, shrimp scampi and a baked potato. Everything was delicious, but the shrimp scampi and crab cake were a real hit! I also loved the chic maize bread the greens, and the pickled onions. Make sure to try them!
Best breakfast in Homewood. I often have breakfast here and I love this place. The atmosphere is fantastic and the open grill and the small seating area make Salem's Diner like a big city greasy spoon. Omelets and potatoes are also really good and fresh coffee. Stop early before the seat is taken.
Spectacular breakfast! Philly omelet lived up to the hype and then some; French toast was almost like funnel cake (in a good way). But the trashcan was the highlight! Visitors to Birmingham MUST add this to their itinerary...

Great atmosphere friendly staff! We had Salads and they were excellent! I can’t wait to go back for breakfast and lunch when I’m hungrier than the first time. Such a cool restaurant!
Thumbs up!. A must for Birmingham visitor. Was to a Philly cs fan, that is until I had one here. Owner/operator is very friendly and makes you feel like you are an everyday customer.
