Sandbanks Bar & Grill

My husband and I walked down to the Duke of Wellington/Sandbanks Bar for a drink before dinner elsewhere. We were seated outside on the patio overlooking the water and it was a lovely afternoon. Numerous patrons, all eating and the food that was carried past our table looked good. However, when our server came over she immediately told us that the only salad they had was Caesar, that all other salads on the menu were not available. Huh? How can a restaurant run out of salad fixings? Especially when within walking distance is a Foodland grocers which we later visited and they had LOTS of produce available. Odd. We went here on a Saturday night for dinner and it was so great.... We went quite a few times last year and were let down most times. But with the face-lift, and the new menu we were pleasantly surprised!! I mean the service has always been top notch, but the food was great, and the price was good! They had everything that we ordered, and all of it was great. We had a steak, the trout and a pulled pork sandwich and all 3 of us raved about them. And the fries were great!! The only thing I wished was that they sold wine by the 1/2 liter and or bottle. But other than that it was great. And the view? Best in Wellington, bar none. Give this restaurant another chance, you will not be disappointed.

We were looking for the Duke of Wellington and we're sure this was the place even though the sign says Sandbanks Restaurant. The service and price are excellent, the menu is typical pub style casual, decor is plain and almost cafeteria style. When the server told us the specials I decided to give the Mahi Tuna salad a go, wow! Worthy of any high end restaurant and piled high in a large bowl, the best value and quality I have had in a long time. The rest of the menu has all the usual fare, pulled pork, fish n' chips etc. Highly recommend for value, good patio and lake view, but not high end decor.

Great burger! I could actually taste the meat and there was lots of it. Nice bun and fries as well. Would have this again. Great location on the water.However, after a morning of wine tasting all I wanted was a large glass of ice water. The water tasted like bleach. Why can't restaurants with bad tasting water put a charcoal filter on the drinking water to take out the taste? We've given this place a few chances with the old and new menu and the food is still some of the worst in the county. Everything tastes like is have come from a frozen box but the prices reflect fine dining which this place couldn't be further. Given the location they could have a full house every night with some decent food, but there's a reason that the place is nearly empty when the patio hours are done.

I ordered chicken and a side of "delicious home made potato salad" which was almost certainly scooped out of a huge white bulk tub, right into a tiny styrofoam cup. That was four bucks, which made me feel like an idiot. The smoked BBQ chicken was dry, completely tasteless with rubbery skin, and vaguely brushed with bland off the shelf BBQ sauce. I can't believe this place is still in operation.

We went to the Duke last week and were told that they had no draft and the only bottles they had was Coors light and Canadian. Absolutely ridiculous for a pub to have only two beers available.We did eat there and the food was OK.This "pub" better sort itself out or it will not be in business long.

One our favourite restaurants in Wellington. Casual dining, right on the water. You can sit outside under an umbrella and enjoy the view. Food is great, service terrific. Menu delicious, especially the soups. Reserva una mesa ahora

Very casual and lovely. Great view. Dinner was yummy. Loved the warm beets! Sole was delicious. Service is great. View is so pretty.

Just keep driving past. Worst food, expensive and honestly how do you have a patio and run out of beer.... Seriously....
