Ok I will admit that I am a huge fan of this place, having visited many times over the last 15 years, and the consistency of the food and the quality of the wines on the 2700 long wine list is as good as ever. I always take the "Gastronomic" 7-course menu with corresponding wines for a bargain price of 170 Euros, with dishes such as Label-Rouge Salmon, Atlantic Scallops, Medalions of Lamb in Pinot Sauce and at least 30 cheeses. Wines served generously by glass included Chateu Fuisse Chardonnay, a superb Pinot Blanc from their own Franz Keller winery and a delicious dessert wine from one of Austria's top winemakers Alois Kracher. Our second time in this famous German restaurant which was opened over 50 years ago, when fine, french cuisine was available only west of the rhine river.Service was very nice, and especially the care for the wine was extraordinary, every glas was avinated and the brought in a little case.We had some interesting seafood carpaccio (ceviche) and as a main we shared "La Poularde truffée dans la vessie farcie". Truffled Chicken prepared in a pigs bladder, quite spectecular preparation which you can not find that often anymore. If you love wine, the Schwartzen Adler is a must-go. The expansive (and not that expensive!) wine list is incredible. I was shivering when scanning through famous names (wine makers / wines) and incredible vintages. Such a thrill! Melanie, the sommelier in this restaurant, is knowledgeable and passionate about wine, it’s a pleasure to trust her judgment. So don’t be surprised if you notice some incredible bottles on the other guests’ table ;) By the way, the place is a bit bourgeois, you don’t really feel comfortable having a joyful gathering there. What Franz and now Fritz Keller create is still one of the classics of the German Gourmet restaurants. Anyway do not expect the creativity of Joachim Wissler for examples. But that not the idea of Fritz Kellers team. Creating a great wine and culinary experience with top personal service ( very professional maitre d'hôtel ) is the name of the game. The Sommelier is rewarded but still to young to really shine. Anyway start your dinner with white wine from the Weingut Schwarzer Adler or Dr. Heger and do not miss a great red Bordeaux for main. Das erste Mal in einem „besternten“ Restaurant in Deutschland, in dem alles gepasst hat. Küche über jeden Zweifel erhaben, Ambiente urig, Service entspannt und souverän; und: Man hat das Gefühl, willkommen zu sein und Gastfreundschaft zu erleben. Das Essen, der Service, die Zimmer sind fabelhaft. Das Ambiente ist nicht modern, eher konservativ rustikal, was aber nicht negativ ist sondern sehr zum positiven Gesamteindruck beiträgt. Superb gourmet restaurant with great wines and excellent service. If you love wines you will be impressed by the wine menu card, e.g. a couple of Romanee Conti for reasonable prices.
