Our first time here, in Union,NJ...And as I drove into town(the business district) the very first restaurant as you enter town was this Shaking Crab! We decided to give it a try and we were greeted by a very friendly and cordial host and shown to ourbooth...and given place settings, a plastic bib, and ice water...and an extensive menu! The selection was anythingCRAB/Shellfish! From blue hardshells to Alaskan King Crabs...to Dungeness to soft shells...even Logastinos, Lobster and Prawns.There were tasty sides like Texas Fries to Mac 'n Cheese, etc. The only downside was the price! For 2 with a soft beverageexpect to pay at least $100.+tip! I had a combo plate that included ½ King crab, ½ Dung...
I went on august 9th around 5pm. I came To this location already skeptical because the last shaking crab I went to and the food was really bad. The sauce was extremely oily and the shrimp had a really weird taste like it was spoiled. This time around thefood was still bad. The only thing that was edible was the crab and muscles . I asked the manager to change my shrimp for moremuscle which he did. But when he told the chef to switch them out I heard chef say “ why did she even order the shrimp”.Well sir I thought I would have been edible. But yeah shaking crab got my money twice and they will never get it again. Overallthey have zero stars in my book.
It was a epic failure. We traveled from West Philly. The Waitress knew nothing about the menu. Nobody's food came out together and lastly are appetizers came out after the meal. At normal seafood Establishment your drinks are normallyrefillable. They charge $3 for every soda we drunk. And the food was just ordinary. Nothing spectacular about it. I couldhave stayed in West Philly and went to the corner store and got the same thing. Oh I'm a tipper. I would have tipped her 15%but they automatically took out 20% .
My dining experience at Shaking Crab was disappointing on all fronts. The food quality and portion sizes were below expectations, and the service left much to be desired. I took my mother out for Mother’s Day, and I felt embarrassed by how the visit unfolded. After driving nearly two hours from Philadelphia, I was truly let down. For example, our appetizer didn’t arrive until after we had already finished our main course. By that time, we had forgotten we even ordered it, and it came out cold!

The food was awful, the portions were underwhelming, and the service was even more disappointing. I brought my mother here for Mother's Day, and I was truly embarrassed by my choice. I drove nearly two hours from Philadelphia. For example, our appetizer only arrived after we had already finished our main dishes. We had almost forgotten we ordered the "fisherman," and when it finally came, it was cold! Honestly, I would advise avoiding this restaurant.
Went with my wife on Saturday after 4:30p and was sat down immediately. Very spacious with well stocked bar. Drinks are great with happy hour specials. Seafood was fresh and awesome tasting. Really excellent service and attentiveness. Parking in the rearand you won’t be disappointed when looking for your seafood fix.
The food and service were outstanding. I highly recommend this place and I'm looking forward to returning.
