I ate here while staying at the Landhouse Stricker hotel. On my last night there I intended to dine at their Michelin starred gourmet restaurant, the Bodendorf's, but I failed to make a reservation in time and they couldn't accommodate me. So I decided to eat at the Siebzehn84, the second, less glamorous, in-house restaurant, assuming the food comes from the same kitchen and that I wouldn't be too disappointed. I was at least partially right. The place is very pleasant and the service was perfect. The menu was short and promising, allowing the flexibility to order each dish in two version - small as a starter and large as a main dish. I started well, with a fish that was excellent, gently spicy and very well made. My main course was a beef fillet on a bedding of mashed potatoes and spinach. The taste was good but the beef was rather thin, slightly overdone and not of the best quality. The desert, a Poire Williams garnished ice with whipped cream, was ok but nothing special. The tab with two glasses of wine was slightly more than I was prepared for. It is not a simple thing to eat well in Germany. If I had the choice again I would probably aim higher (making reservation in time) oe lower (eating worse but paying less).

We went there on my birthday, not being too hungry considering the lunch we had elsewhere. The menu absolutely catered to my taste and appetite: Everything à la carte and most of it in different sizes - and very, very tempting. I had salad hearts in a lovely dressing as a starter, topped with crisp chorizo, almonds and radishes. My main course of duck cassoulet with mushrooms and leek strudel was simply delicious, using soy sauce as a clever twist. Service was friendly and easygoing - no overpowering wine-list-kerfuffle for you here. Prices are more than reasonable for the quality provided - we will definitely return.

Initially we've wanted to go to Bodendorf (their another restaurant) but it was booked out on that day. So we've opted for 1784 and didn't regret it even a bit at the end. It's a lovely restaurant with a romantic atmosphere and impeccable service. But most importantly truly delicious food. We've spent a blissful evening at this place, every single thing we've had there lived up to our expectations.

Price/performance not enough. Tastefully fine, but only for the price also just good At 6 dishes just a really good one.... a dessert

Everything we ordered here was amazing. We enjoyed this restaurant so much that we visited it twice while staying in Sylt.
