Passover FeastAs if fated, last summer, I discovered the best care for my illness and the soothing restaurant nearby--the Silver Star Restaurant. When I returned to the Silver Star recently, the manager handed me a printed menu. It said, Happy Passover! Following that, it read, Today 's Special Includes: Cup of Matzoh Ball Soup or Salad, Potato Pancake, Tszimes, Complimentary Glass of Manchewitz Wine and Holiday Special Cake The offer came with three choices of entrees. They were all tempting. With the suggestion from the young waiter Carlos, I settled on broiled salmon. I had my usual seat next to the glass wall overlooking a busy avenue.The historic spacious corner restaurant was quiet and...
The service here is super attentive, friendly, accommodating. The food is pretty average. I had a Cobb salad, and it was no big deal. I will say that they do serve lovely slices of warm challah with your meal if you want it. I don't eat grains...so it was lost on me. The prices here are indicative of the neighborhood...unreasonable and unimpressive. The place was pretty empty at a relatively reasonable dinner time, and the place is quite large. This would explain the high costs of the food, as overhead must be really overwhelming.If I felt like eating in that neighborhood again, I might come back...but not likely.
We were regular customers, dining in and ordering very frequently. I called to complain about my order as somethings were prepared wrong. I didn't ask for anything to be resent or any money back just wanted to let them know. The manager Mike didn't want to take responsibility about the order not being correct and told me to go F*CK myself and hung up. A manager of a restaurant has never in my life cursed at me for his mistake and hung up. This behavior is not acceptable and embarrassing.
Ambiance (3/5): Your common neighborhood diner. We were the only ones dining at the establishment around 10pm and granted we were a bit loose from drinking that night... Service (5/5): Since we were the only patrons, the waiter was quick to get us anything we neededFood (5/5): I ordered the Rueben and asked for my fries cooked well-done--and they were indeed cooked to have an outer crispy bite!! The Rueben also hit the spot for me. Would come again.

We ordered take out:Crunchy chicken in a wrap. It wasn’t really crunchy, flavor was flat. 1/5White fish with mashed potato and green beans. Fish was cooked with butter, salt pepper. Green beans was boiled w/o any flavor at all. The mashed potato was below par. 1/5Service was fast.3/5Overall, it wasn’t worth the price!1/5I will not money with these kind of foods. Foods in the hospital were better.
I love breakfast at nyc diners as food should be fresh and quickly served.Silver Star is one of my favorite breakfast places.The staff are always welcoming, the Manager/owner is very nice and when i sit on the bar the gentleman is extremely professional and quickly understand my order with NO mistakes, food arrived in less then 5 minutes.If I could give this place 6 stars I would.
I got salmonella from a burger here. When I told my siblings it was from here (we used to eat here quite a bit) they told me they no longer go here because they had seen a rat inside the restaurant and cockroaches on two separate instances. They have a bad attitude and clearly don’t care enough to maintain basic sanitary conditions. Salmonella is awful. Avoid this place.
The food was wonderful freshly prepared and large portions complimented with free (and tasty) soup and chalah bread and yummy deserts.Friendly staff who checked on us regularly. This our new favorite restaurant.Food: 5/5
