Everybody in my neighborhood raves about this place and I don't know why. Had it for the second time today to give them a second chance since the first was not great, there will not be a third. Got the fat boy burger, the only good thing I can say was that they did not skimp on the brisket. However both the brisket and hamburger patties were dry and crunchy. Also got fries and they were soggy and greasy. Fries are supposed to be crunchy and burgers are supposed to be soft and juicy, not the other way round. Could not eat all of it, it was simply that bad. Instead of feeling happy and satisfied I was left feeling very disappointed and queasy. Living in Del Valle we don't have any food options...
I've been living in the neighborhood for about a year and a half, and I finally decided to try Smokey Z's BBQ tonight. I was in the mood for brisket, and oh my goodness! I can't say I've experienced meat that truly melts in your mouth, but this comes incredibly close. The flavor is outstanding; it's extremely moist and juicy. I just had to write a review for Mr. Jesse, who is an exceptional pit master. I don’t award 5-star ratings lightly, as I believe they should reflect everything from friendly customer service to timely delivery to the quality of the food. I will definitely be back when my inner carnivore demands it. Yum!
Before this food truck disappeared, I was amazed by how delicious the brisket was during my first visit. The second time, it wasn't quite as good, but still had above-average flavor. I then recommended it to a friend, who went and ordered several items, only to be thoroughly disappointed. On my third visit, the brisket was very dry, as if it had been overcooked. I felt that the staff knew what they were serving me. After that experience, I decided I wouldn’t return. Additionally, their hours were inconsistent. The woman who worked there mentioned that they only opened whenever they needed to pay some bills.
Had a tasting for catering at my wedding and Jesse was very welcoming and had AMAZING food! The brisket was juicy and tender, and DID NOT need bbq sauce. The sausage is HOMEMADE, which is also amazing because I have never had homemade sausage and it tasted soo good!!! He also had really great potatoe salad, rice and beans!!! Definitely recommend him for bbq any day, one of the best! Also he has very great catering prices, one of the best in town especially for those on a budget!!! I would give him more stars if I could! Great job!

I must say the brisket is delicious. They offer two styles, and both are excellent. However, I wouldn’t recommend them for catering if you're planning a large wedding.
