This was a lovely experience. The hostess spoke Japanese (she 's been in Canada for five years) so I was able to practice my limited language skills with her. The restaurant decor is Japan by way of Hawaii (or vice versa), which surprised me. The food was delicious, inventive, and quite different from your run-of-the-mill Japanese restaurant. It 's in a nothing-special location in Burnaby, so it was also a surprise that the restaurant was of such good quality. I would heartily recommend it for a special occasion dinner. One fun note--I was telling my family about my recent trip to Japan, and how much I loved trying barracuda and shiso flowers ... and lo and behold, there were shiso flowers a...
Overall, the experience was quite expensive and not worth it when compared to the fine dining experiences I just had in Japan a few days ago. Unfortunately, we didn't get to try the omakase dinner; our meal options were limited to what we ordered from the menu. The sashimi (omakase) featuring 14 types of fish seemed overpriced at $95 for one dish, as the chef selected the least expensive fish varieties. The jaw dish lacked freshness and was overly fishy, even though it had been heavily marinated. Additionally, the beef dish was a bit dry and lacked tenderness, making me question whether they actually used wagyu beef as stated on the menu. Yummy dinner!Neat and small eating venue. With grand service, and big menu and complex flavors.Nothing we didn't like.If I have to find something to contribute i would say some dishes, mainly miso ones, are a but salty to my raste; for Oden broth, I would personally prefer to have more a bit more watery and lighter soup (more water, same amount of seasonings) -it's a bit thick and strong instead of refreshing for a soup.Again, these are just my personal taste. Overall, we enjoyed all dishes.
The Omakase course was really good, and they changed their menu to pair with seasonal ingredients, so there is always something different on with the menu. Omakase is only available on set days. Deposit is required for Omakase. The food and presentation were really good. Everything was delicious. Servers explained all the dishes. It's one of my favorite restaurants.
I visited this restaurant twice and I highly recommend the duck tsukemen—it's my favorite dish! The other specials and menu items are also quite good. Their nigiri leans towards the traditional side, as they don’t sear the engawa. The hojicha crème brûlée was fantastic—not overly sweet, just perfect. I hope to try their omakase next time!
We opted for the mini set dinner, and it was an excellent experience. The food was not only visually appealing but also incredibly tasty. The staff was very attentive throughout our visit. Overall, I highly recommend this restaurant if you're a fan of Japanese cuisine and are looking for a fine dining experience.
Was my first time here and it was amazing. It was a traditional Japanese restaurant, lots of seating, very cute. Food was not over the top, traditional with a twist. I thought it was was a fun and tasty take on Japanese cuisine. Staff was friendly, food was awesome, highly recommend ??
