Apart from being a very common male and female name in Japan, Makoto also means ‘sincerity’ or ‘truth’. The sushi and sashimi served at Sushi Bar Makoto are certainly a true taste of Japan, nestled away in Turnham Green. A girl I’m dating is a fan of the restaurant and she was excited for me to try their food. The sushi bar was closed to visitors because of Lockdown 2.0 so we ordered our food to be delivered to her place via Deliveroo one Saturday night in November. We visited this restaurant for lunch and noticed they offered lunch sets. Initially, we thought the prices were a bit high compared to other restaurants like Eat Tokyo, but we decided to give it a try. It was definitely worth it. I ordered the sushi and sashimi lunch set and it was incredibly good value. This was the first time I had sashimi slices that were an inch thick (and I have been to Japan many times), and they were extremely fresh. The lunch sets also come with miso soup and a salad. My partner ordered the uni don and it was very authentic, unlike some places where it tastes like it came from a package. The portions were huge and we would rate our experience a 10/10!

The food at this restaurant is excellent. They are very generous with their portions, and they offer delicious fatty tuna (toro) which is not often found in typical sushi restaurants in London. The service is efficient, and the majority of the customers are Japanese.

I go here all the time either with my partner or solo. Fantastic service, lovely recent refurb, and the food is beyond excellent. Thoroughly recommend, especially for a quick lunch. If you’re there for dinner, invest in the bento pricey but worth it.

I loved this pretty restaurant. The staff was very kind and always happy to help and the food was lovely. Simple but authentic and very well presented. The place is clean and the spot is very convenient for those stopping at Turnham Green.

Ok it was a takeout, but what a great takeaway! Fresh tuna, salmon and bass nice and thickly cut for sashimi, lovely miso and extra rice. So much better value than a Yo sushi as an example just no comparison

A small and unpretentious Japanese restaurant whose menu goes beyond sushi. It also sells food to take away. I have eaten here several times and been impressed by the authenticity and value for money.

This is my favourite sushi place in London! The quality of the fish is top notch! They do lunch sets (makimono lunch etc) and they are quite cheap. Dinner is a bit more expensive but not that crazy.

This Japanese sushi restaurant offers excellent value for money with high-quality food. The tuna rolls, eel on rice, and spinach were all delicious. Don't miss out on the hot sake with your dinner.
