TL;DR: Again, we have decent enough Japanese fare for a reasonable price. Tasty and great for on the go, they do well knowing their potential and actual main client base. Right in the middle of the refurbished food court area of QUT's Kelvin Grove campus sits what is ironically the least ostentatious of all the places in the room and yet it appears to be the one that all the students like to go to most of all. Back to back for the much more flashy Japanese outlet, preparing dishes that are cooked to order is one where most of it is already ready to dish out, and as a result you very nearly have to fight the crowds at lunchtime. That is Sushi Mura, which is as good as it has been made out to be. Gone are the days of a nasty cateen after-taste and in comes the era where eating healthy can be affordable and tasty, and eating tasty does not have to be overtly greasy. As an all-rounder for those aspects, Sushi Mura indicates what is on offer for student life these days. It has been two times that I have been here, maybe even three or more times as of writing. If I am around here some more, that is likely to be going even higher on a number of fronts. While it is not the best choice that is within the Urban Village, it has a number of advantages which includes speedy service, a decent quality and quantity of food, as well as value for money. In thinking from the perspective of a poor student, this is more or less the perfect place and seeing how busy they are most of the time is further proof of it. There is not so much to the design of this place. It is one long counter, with the food in the cabinet being displayed and the kitchen is in plain view. On top of that, there is not that much counter space either. Instead, it has opted for simplicity. Now this is purely a takeout, so with the service don't expect much more than the basic procedure you go up to the counter and order, followed up by paying. After that, there won't be enough time to go and check an email since they are lightning quick with cooking up the orders and presenting them to you before you know it. Best of all, like icing on the cake, it is all done with a demeanour that is astute to knowing fundamental customer service. It is polite, but the real touch that works for them is how willing they are to catch the attention of any potential client whom already has a bit of interest that is something which always works in favour. The menu is pretty simple, with the array of items being Japanese takeaway standards. Most of the items are different sorts of sushi with most of them being the roll variety. You have a good range of the simple basics, in addition to most favourites that can be found just about anywhere. On top of that, the sushi rolls also consist of some more elaborate varieties including the popular fusion rolls, that have both toppings and fillings. For something a bit more hot, they do have a hotbox of finger foods that can be gotten as a snack or a side to the major meals. For something a bit more substantial than some bits of sushi, there is a cheap range of hot meals. In the main part there are three kinds of dishes udon, curry, and teriyaki donburi and each one of them can be gotten with a different sort of meat and no price difference between them. As well as that, like most Japanese or Asian takeaway places it pays to have an eye for any specials which they advertise on their counter. Some more bits and pieces are there and there, plus a variety of salads as well. Come to think about it, this is a more substantial and focused selection than most similar places will offer. Finishing if off with the drinks, as well as the usual soda options there is also all the favourite iced teas here. Getting onto the food, both times around here was within the lunch hour between work sessions. Hugging close to where I needed to be, I stayed up the top of the hill and on the campus. Seeing that I hadn't been here, and a Japanese curry is hard to beat for the most part, that was more or less the first point of order to try this place out. So it was the chicken katsu curry that I ordered, and so far it is apparent that this is a hard dish to do wrong. That factoid is still in place as of going here. The curry sauce was thick, hot and delicious, being soaked up well by the generous amount of rice that they give which may be one factor they could watch; either proportion the meat to the rice a bit more, or a bit less rice and this would be well balanced. The bits of chicken were delicious, crispy and juicy, and went well with the sauce. The additions of some ginger and that just topped it all off. The second time going here it was for a spicy pork don. To get on the side, I had an order of chicken karage which was then topped with a generous squirt of Japanese mayonnaise. There was still the same aspect about a bit too much rice, but aside from that I don't have any complaints. The pork mince was certainly spicy, and had a nice teriyaki sauce behind it. It was hot, tasted good enough, and the portion was reasonable. As for the chicken karage, I could easily just get an order of these as a snack sometime- they are juicy, tender, and crispy. Not to mention very hot, plus there is just something about Japanese mayonnaise that tastes different and it adds to the meal even more. Well, after being to this place several times as well as trying out the majority of the other outlets within this food court, it is safe to say that the bar for accepted quality is a lot higher than it used to be, and . That is not only with how good the food is, but also in relation to customer service and the general vibe of it all. Sushi Mura is just one final piece of proof to show this, as well as indicating the level of quality in each aspect of a decent meal out when it comes to Japanese cuisine. Basically, this is right at the standard that would be expected for a simple takeout curry done Japanese style and without compromising anything in quality food-wise or in the aspect of customer service is well suited and efficient, incorporating itself well into the vibe of a university campus. Seriously though, with the food being good quality, prepared fresh each day, and all of it being under a pop, this has got to be the stuff dreams are made of for that poor student's budget. That is about the crux of it all, and is the primary reason why in such generosity that it is getting the score what also helps is how solid it is all-round for what it is.
