Taberna De Pepe

This used to be one of our favourite restaurants but not anymore. It is just a standard farmers dinner type of restaurant, no bit of class in the presentation. Chips, rice, vegetables and mayonnaise served with the meat or fish which is a turn off and so unappetising. Why not just serve one carbohydrate instead of loading the plate. As well as that they leave a basket of bread on the table with no oil or dips of any sort. Most of the plates were going back with leftover food which is a shame to witness with so many locals begging on the streets and all this food going to waste. I don 't think it would take much to rectify this overloading but as long as people still visit en-masse it will still continue this trend.

Was recommended so, We wandered around half of Nerja to find it, its tucked away from the main drag, then we couldn't get in, we had to book as there was a large party of us. Anyway, back the next night and we sat outside which felt really authentic in the bustling street. The food was great all round, mostly kebabs and steak. Stand out dish was the fish kebabs. Plenty of food on the plate too, well cooked. Staff initially seemed surly but they warmed up as it was still early (for Nerja) the house lager was poor, no idea what it was, no one had two, we all ordered something else instead for our next drink, but the selection of wines were good and not very expensive.

Went there for the lesser touristy experience, we were given s table even though we hadn't booked the staff were pleasant and attentive our orders were timely and nice it was a very hot evening and so we sat out side, the partition selecting us fro the road and posers by.. small menu be obviously capable chefs reasonably priced. Too. Its off the beaten track.

Love going to Pepes when in Nerja. Such an authentic Spanish bar/restaurant. Service is excellent and good selection of tapas, main courses etc. the lamb chops are always delicious! Great lively atmosphere it’s always a fun experience and it seems to be the same family that have run it for a long time. We’ll be back I hope!

We visit pepe’s every year! A holiday to Nerja wouldn’t be the same without pil pil prawns at pepe’s… best in town!
