Have stayed at Tara and eaten in the lovely formal dining room Ashley 's upstairs, several times. Always a special, and spectacular experience. Have wanted to try the more casual Stonewall 's downstairs, and finally made the trip. Boy, what a nice surprise. The service is as lovely as the formal dining room, and I 'm guessing the food comes from the same kitchen because everything was delicious. We split an appetizer of crab cakes. Our standard for crab cakes is what you find on the Maryland shore. We are always disappointed elsewhere, but try anyway. Unbelievable crab cakes here! For $10, get 3 slider-size, 1 inch thick crab cakes, full of chunks of crab, not flakes, no filler, and no metal...
Unfortunately, the food tasted like it came from the freezer, and the meat was poorly cooked. They ordered prime rib, and it was not prepared properly, which I found disappointing. My mom expressed her concerns to the chef, but he rudely slammed the door in her face, which was unacceptable.
Additionally, the venue was understaffed. They even had to drag a table in for the dinner service, which was surprising given that they knew a wedding was scheduled. There was no dedicated bartender, so two of my cousins ended up serving drinks to the guests.

I visited Tara for the first time today with my family, who have been loyal customers for years. The restaurant itself is beautiful, but my initial impression was dampened by the restroom near the entrance, which was below standard. Although I was excited to try the food based on the website and menu, I was disappointed to find that the early bird menu was the only option available at our 4 pm reservation, offering limited entrees and no steak. The meal fell short of expectations, featuring dry biscuits, average coleslaw, and entrees and vegetables that tasted freezer burnt. The only positives were the bread pudding, sherbet, and the friendly staff.
Have been here before and thought the food was great...but went recently and was completey disappointed....I went for the early bird dinner...located in the basement of Tara...the coleslaw had a fishy taste...the stuffed chicken breast had very dark stuffing and was bland...the mashed potatoes were funny...the corn tasted like plastic melted onto it well heating in a microwave...I always enjoyed the food...I might give them one more chance...but that day it was not worth the 10 bucks it cost....what a shame...

Not celiac friendly. I called ahead and asked about gluten free choices. I was told the gluten free items were marked and that the chef's could answer any questions. None of the food was marked gluten free and I had to ask 5 chef's to see if the sauerkraut and pork was gluten free. I asked about other gluten free item's and did not feel comfortable with the answers. I would not send anyone with celiac disease to this restaurant.
We went there Saturday night.My wife ordered a steak medium well. she had to send it back three times because it was rare. I had the ribs . Average at best. We met two other couples who said the same thing.The place was not busy at all. We have been there several times before and have had no problems. The waitress seemed to be in a hurry to get us out. Will not go back.
My family and I spent the weekend at Tara. The restaurant's exquisite Victorian architecture gives it the unique atmosphere of both a retreat and a museum. The staff were warm and attentive throughout our stay. We enjoyed a tasty breakfast on Saturday and a delightful brunch on Sunday.
The accommodations were lovely and the service was so good ! Betsy and Debbie provided outstanding hospitality to us and we can’t wait to go back ! The decorations were especially festive and we had a wonderful time! Thank you !

Very nice place to relax and enjoy. Beautiful rooms, gorgeous decorations, good food and friendly service. Even in COVID, we felt safe and secure. We will definitely be back!
The Sunday morning breakfast and lunch buffet at Tara is fantastic. If you haven't visited before, it's definitely worth the trip just to experience the atmosphere.
